Free Monday Nia class for Seniors at 1 pm at MAGMA Studio New routine Dec 2nd-Country Blues!

Come work off all the turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie in a safe, fun and cardiovascular practice…Nia.  Come tomorrow and try it out for free!

We will revisit our Country Blues routine with fun music by the Bumper Jacksons, the Quebe Sisters and Hot Club of Cowtown.  Lots of fun to move to with crazy lyrics.

Here is a link to my favorite song, “I’ve Got My Whiskey, I Don’t Need You”by the Bumper Jacksons.

Thanks to the generosity of Sarah Silfer-Swift at MAGMA, we are able to offer a free Nia class to all seniors on Cape Ann.  Previously this class was held at the Rose Baker Center but due to their limited space and the growing class numbers, we are lucky to be able to dance in this beautiful studio.  The center is accessible via elevator, see note below.

If you are a member of the Rose Baker Center, we will be keeping attendance as the center will continue to promote the class to its members.  Thanks to Rose Baker Center Director, Lucy Sheehan for helping keep Nia available to its members.

What is Nia and Why Should I Try It?

Nia is a head to toe wellness practice, with elements of dance, martial arts, yoga, and cardiovascular conditioning. We work with movements that help build core strength while honoring our body with its strengths and limitations. People think because Nia is a no impact movement form, that it is easy and not a true workout. it all depends on how you move and how intensely you use your core muscles. It can be both an incredible workout and is adaptable for those with limitations. All in the same class! Come try it if you haven’t. You will be amazed at the results.

Here is what Nia headquarters says about the practice of Nia:

Combining dance, martial arts and mindfulness, Nia tones your body while transforming your mind. More than just a workout, Nia is a holistic fitness practice addressing each aspect of your life – body, mind and soul.

We believe every person can discover, explore, unleash, and enhance their individual potential to live a healthy and meaningful life by engaging their senses and listening to their bodies.

Nia is based on the intelligent design of the body. Each workout brings mindfulness to your dance movement experience leaving you energized, mentally clear, and emotionally balanced.

Nia cardio-dance workouts combine 52 simple moves with dance arts, martial arts, and healing arts to get you fit in 60 minutes – body, mind, emotion, and spirit.

Nia is non-impact, practiced barefoot, and adaptable to individual needs and abilities. Nia classes are taught by licensed Nia teachers.
