CBD and Inflammation

One of my favorite properties about CBD is it’s anti-inflammatory effect on the body. While inflammation is apart of the body’s immune response, it isn’t always perfect. It can be beneficial when, for example, your knee sustains a blow and tissues need care and protection. However, sometimes, inflammation can persist longer than necessary, causing more harm than benefit. People with chronic inflammation are susceptible to asthma, tuberculosis, arthritis, Chrones, various types of cancer, and in some cases Alzheimer’s. Additionally, our environment can be causing inflammation in ways we don’t even realize. Are you eating an all organic diet? Are you breathing in factory fumes or car exhaust on a daily basis? Do you drink a lot of soda? Because of these exposures, inflammation is likely running rampant in your body, and more importantly, your brain. Luckily for us, CBD can counteract this effect.

We have a variety of pain management topicals available for you to sample for free.

CBD 101 — What is CBD?

CBD, or Cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring compound found in cannabis and hemp plants.  As well as CBD, the Cannabis plant contains between 70- 100 other cannabinoids.  CBD interacts with your body through your endocannabinoid system (ECS) the vast system that controls your body’s general state of balance or homeostasis.  The ECS regulates everything from mood, memory, the immune system, pain signaling and inflammatory response.  CBD has shown to help support functions such as appetite, mood, immune response, pain, sleep and many many more.  By supporting your ECS through CBD, we are returning our bodies back to it’s optimal state.

We tend to get a lot of questions regarding the most effective way to manage pain. Is a topical treatment better than supplementing with the oil? Is there a certain amount I should be using? How long will it take to kick in?

Firstly we would like to note that the best way to treat pain is typically by attacking it from both sides (an external application as well as an internal application). This can be achieved by pairing a low to moderate dose of oil under the tongue in addition to applying a pain cream to the affected area. The benefits of using both oil and cream is that you will need much less of each product to achieve pain relief. Additionally, when using the oil, it enhances the effect of the topical treatment so as to make it more potent, and last much longer.

That being said, it is possible to achieve positive results by simply supplementing one or the other (the oil or the cream). The rule of thumb here is that a topical treatment will be more effective in the extremities, such as the hands, wrists, feet, knees, neck and shoulders. Alternatively, a pain cream will be less effective for pain management in the core of the body, such as the chest, gut, back, and pelvis. Therefore, for the core, supplementing the oil under the tongue would be most effective. When using just one of these methods, it is important to remember that the CBD may need to build up in your system for a few days before you start to feel relief. This means that consistency in dosing is key. Start with a moderate amount, and work your way down.

We are currently featuring several different pain creams as FREE SAMPLES, so please come down and try them out. You literally have nothing to lose!!!

Can CBD Help with Depression?

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that depression effects 300 million or more than 4% of us, making it the planets #1 source of disability. And that count it probably significantly understated given the stigma surrounding this illness. As with anxiety disorders, CBD has become a source of hope.

Recent research points to some potentially anti-depressant effects of the compound- and a link between depression and low endocannabinoid levels. One study showed that CBD can boost levels of the body’s natural “bliss” molecule anadamide. Another connected CBD to higher levels of serotonin in the brain; this enzyme is known to have an anti-depressant effect. Others have suggested positive impacts to mood-improving processes in the hippocampus, and to CBD’s value in reducing neuron damage and brain inflammation.

In addition to clinical trials, anecdotal evidence suggests that CBD can be effective either in conjunction with or in place of traditional anti-depressant treatment. A survey of 2400 HelloMD community members, for instance, found that 80% of those polled found CBD extremely effective at treating their illness and 42% stopped using traditional medicines in favor of using CBD. While this data is promising, it can’t be taken as anything close to proof. Depression is an extremely complex illness, and more research is needed.

Insomnia and Cannabidiol CBD

By The American Sleep Association ASA

Researchers discovered that the endocannabinoid system plays a role in maintaining certain body functions, such as mood, appetite, sleep, and regulating circadian rhythms. Within the endocannabinoid system is a network of cannabinoid receptors in the brain and central nervous system. The two primary receptors identified are CB1 and CB2.

Cannabinoids attach to these cells and have various effects. As far as how they may affect sleep, some research indicates that the cannabinoid CBD may interact with specific receptors, potentially affecting the sleep/wake cycle.

Additionally, CBD may also decrease anxiety and pain, which can both interfere with restful sleep. By reducing certain symptoms, it’s also possible that sleep may improve.

Scientists Believe Cannabis Could Help Prevent and Treat Corona Virus

They have high hopes for a coronavirus breakthrough.

A team of Canadian scientists believes it has found strong strains of cannabis that could help prevent or treat coronavirus infections, according to interviews and a study.

Researchers from the University of Lethbridge said a study in April showed at least 13 cannabis plants were high in CBD that appeared to affect the ACE2 pathways that the bug uses to access the body.

“We were totally stunned at first, and then we were really happy,” one of the researchers, Olga Kovalchuk, told CTV News.

Angel Wings Wellness-Take care of your Endocannabinoid system and it will take care of you!

Our bodies consist of many unique physiologic systems whose sole purpose is to maintain an internal balance called homeostasis. We know the pancreas releases insulin to balance glucose levels between the bloodstream and cells. The thyroid gland releases thyroid hormone, which regulates vital bodily functions related to metabolism, body temperature and much more. Simply put, our bodies are working constantly to stay balanced in response to our external environment.

In the quest to understand how THC causes its well-known intoxicating effects, scientists discovered that we have yet another regulatory physiologic system, called the endocannabinoid system or ECS, whose role is to maintain homeostasis of the messages sent between our cells. Further research has shown that sickness, inflammation, and injury will trigger the ECS to take action, working to reset our internal environment back to homeostasis. This system has been described as being protective and necessary for life. What if we could target this system to prevent illness and maintain better health? Adding high quality CBD may help get you there!

How CBD Oil May Help You With Arthritis Pain.

Come visit us 12 Rogers Street!

How CBD Oil Works

According to Medical News Today, the body’s endocannabinoid system has two cannabinoid receptors: CB1 and CB2.

A majority of CB1 receptors are located in the brain and are associated with cognitive actions related to coordination, mood, thinking, memory, and appetite. The CB2 receptors, on the other hand, can be found in the immune system. This makes them more responsible for the body’s response to pain and inflammation.

Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, attaches to the CB1 receptors, which explains why smoking or otherwise ingesting marijuana affects users on a cognitive level.

However, CBD impacts the CB2 receptors. And it does so indirectly, not by attaching to the CB2 receptor, but by enticing the body to make more of its own cannabinoids. This creates a positive effect on the body’s pain and inflammation responses and may help with Arthritis and Joint pain.
