Never done yoga? Sore? Not flexible? Out of shape? Nervous? Intimidated? This program is for you.

meet

Starting next week with a kickoff meeting – you’ll come and take 5 classes in studio every week, learn to practice yoga at home by yourself, build meditation and mindful eating into your day to day, start to shift some habits in your life, and meet some people of real quality in the other participants.

I encourage you to jump in with two feet. As a participant in this program last fall I confirmed the suspicions I had that no one in this life is responsible for the way I feel physically or emotionally except for me. Nothing has a more direct impact on the direction of my life than the decisions I make, and those decisions are always informed by the way I’m feeling and the habits I’ve reinforced. You have an opportunity this Spring to make a pattern in your life of choosing to do the challenging thing, and feeling the elation of success. This program gives you the opportunity for a handful of small but powerful victories every day, that allow you to build the motivation and momentum to spring you forward into new opportunities, relationships, and seasons in your life. Join us.

Do you like Football? You’ll dig Yoga.

Do you like Football? You’ll dig Yoga.

Yoga is just like football. Well, except for the fact that one of the very first tenets of yoga is Non-Violence (ahimsa), and football is an extremely violent game – yoga is just like football.

Tom Brady is one of the most successful athletes of all time in any sport. He knows that success isn’t decided on Sunday: but in the days, weeks, months, and years leading up to game time. One of my football coaches used to say:

“Cry in the dojo;

Laugh on the battlefield.”

He’s the first player at the training facility in the morning. You hear in the way he answers questions at press conferences his singular focus of preparing himself for the next game. His diet doesn’t consist of Nachos and Jack and Cokes, but wholesome and nourishing food. He isn’t staying up until midnight watching old movies, he’s asleep in bed well before most of the commoners in New England.

Although to be fair – most folks aren’t going to bed with someone that looks like  one of these two every night.

Tom knows better than anyone the value of training, commitment, and PRACTICE. Yea I’m talking about practice man.

It’s not as flashy or fun to talk about as Allen Iverson crossing someone up on the court, but it’s the difference between being someone who has a good run, and being someone who gets stronger as they go. It’s the difference between getting a trophy just for showing up, and having one named after you. Practice is the difference between just floating along through life, and living it to your fullest.

Now I’m not saying that doing yoga is going to make you Tom Brady. It won’t. But it will make you more like him. A regular yoga practice ingrains in your very body language the habits that make Tom successful.

In yoga you practice:

  • breathing calmly through your nose
  • standing tall from your feet right through to the top of your head
  • focusing your eyes downfield
  • putting yourself in challenging positions and learning to thrive
  • harnessing thoughts and emotions to your benefit

And the most helpful thing to come from my personal yoga practice has been the

  • reprogramming my “normal” way of interacting with my life and the world to make myself more proactive rather than reactive. To take my thoughts out of it and let my instincts take over.

Legarrette Blount does in fact play checkers, not chess.

That’s what I loved about playing football, and that’s what I love about practicing yoga. The simplicity of it.

In high school every day after school I would go and learn from my coaches. As much as we griped about them, they did a pretty good job to keep practice fun. Every day we would go over “reads” and responsibilities. Basically in my role as a defensive tackle I was watching the helmet of the guy in front of me. If he went left, I was to hit him and prevent him from moving me, right I was to hit him and go around him, and if he dropped back I was to hit him and drive through him to the quarterback. It doesn’t get any simpler than that.

I didn’t have to get creative, or do arithmetic, or conjugate any verbs in the past imperfect. I just had to practice reading and reacting so much that it became the new normal for me.

Then, on Saturday afternoon out on the field  I got to use all of that training. I got to live in the fullest and purest experience of my body, not in my brain.

As an 18 year old kid with hormones and uncertainty about what I wanted to do with my life – it was a treat to get to do that.

Now as a 28 year old man with a full time job, marriage, kids, a business, and still some of the same questions about “what do I want to do with my life” it’s an absolute necessity to get to turn off my brain and spend some time in the deeply physical space of my yoga practice.

Just like the work a football player puts in all week shows out on the gridiron, so too does my work on my mat show when it’s game time for me. At work, at home, and out in the world the reactions I program in during practice determine the very difference between my successes and failures.

And as much as this notion of smashing someone in the mouth in the real world can feel like it would be rewarding, that high is fleeting. This yoga practice helps dissolve the emotional weakness in us that makes us feel like someone else is responsible for our problems. It helps to remind us that anything worthwhile is worth fighting hard for and there is no other way to get what you want than to physically start moving your body and your life in that direction.

Do you Want to be the Best you Can be?

Do you Want to be the Best you Can be?

Then commit better habits. An hour of writing every day. A morning walk. Volunteering. 20 laps in a pool 3 nights a week. It doesn’t really matter what it is so long as it is something that positively enriches you and you can make a practice of.

Over 50 people from Cape Ann and some from much further away on the North Shore just committed to 40 Days to Personal Revolution.

It was certainly powerful and you should see if it’s something for you.

One of the biggest takeaways was how empowered people feel when they start their mornings on a yoga mat.

franklin

By doing yoga in the morning, you’re ensuring that whatever successes and failures you go on to have during the rest of the day, you’ve at least given yourself the opportunity to start the day with your best foot forward.

We want to be the best yoga studio we can be. The stronger our community members practices grow, the stronger we grow. Come and join us and spend time in a community that lifts people up. You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Who better to be around than people who wake up before the sun to better themselves.

Come improve your physical and mental clarity.

And if you’ve a veteran or active service-member you’ll be practicing for free for the rest of the month of November while you rack up more free classes on your account!

Are you looking to stir things up?

Have you been feeling like it’s time for you to something different, something powerful, something that’s going to precipitate a shift in your life?

Join an amazing group of individuals on this 40 day Journey!

I rely on energy drinks to pick me up in the morning, television to calm me down at the end of the day, and while dinner is usually a pretty healthy affair the other one meal and snacks I have during the day leave a lot to be desired nutritionally and energetically. Like a lot of folks I do whats easiest in the short term without too much of an eye downfield or for the longterm consequences of my day to day habits and behaviors.

My name is Dave DeAngelis and I feel like I’ve been looking for something to jumpstart a shift in my life. My wife Elizabeth and I own and operate Cape Ann Power Yoga. Business is good, I’ve got a comfortable job working for a well respected builder in town, my family is happy and healthy, and by all measures I’m blessed. But just like a lot of people I feel like I could be FEELING a lot better, and with that LIVING a lot truer and closer to my highest and best self. That’s why starting this Sunday, September 25 I’m joining with a group of other regular, like minded people to participate in our  40 Days to Personal Revolution program at Cape Ann Power Yoga. It isn’t going to be easy, but nothing worthwhile in life ever is. As nervous as I am to making this commitment, I realize that it’s only 40 days, and you can do almost anything for 40 days.

The Program involves:

ASANA – 6 practices a week – 5 in studio – at Cape Ann Power Yoga* and 1 home practice                                                  *talk to us about any special work or travel circumstances

MEDITATION – 2 times a day – This will start at five minutes and build to twenty

SELF INQUIRY – Each week you will answer questions from Baron’s book. This journaling work is profound and will open doors in your heart and mind.

Buddies: you’ll have a 40 Day Buddy so that you can keep each other motivated and on track. Buddies, team leaders, and fellow 40 Dayers can let you know when they’ll be at the studio so you’ll know you’ll have friends on the mat.

Nutritional Consulation: Guidance from Ron McKinnon!
