How Does Massachusetts Re-opening Impact Our Seniors

KEEPING SENIORS SAFE WHILE MASSACHUSETTS RE-OPENS

Massachusetts phased approach to re-opening requires the support of everyone. As essential healthcare workers, the team at ABC has had the benefit of working throughout this pandemic and we have a clear understanding of infection control. We’ve followed the guidelines established and it is important to note that we all must continue to respect these guidelines. As Governor Baker said, “the virus remains with us throughout the opening process.” But what does this mean for our seniors?

SENIORS MUST REMAIN HOME UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY

The government continues to urge that seniors (age 65 and older) remain home unless absolutely necessary. ABC provides MANY of the key programs seniors need to remain safe in their homes including:
  • Shopping
  • Companionship
  • Homemaking
  • Personal Care
  • Alzheimer’s/Dementia Specialized Caregivers
  • In-Home Modifications
  • Medication Management
  • Skilled Nursing Visits
  • 24/7 Care/Live-in Caregivers
  • and more

NOW OFFERING: NON-CONTACT SHOPPING

This program enables clients to safely get their groceries, necessary household items and prescriptions without ever having to leave the house and without having to have any contact with a worker because the worker will leave the items at the door or just inside the door- whichever the client prefers!

ABC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

The health, wellness, safety and happiness of our clients and employees are of utmost importance. Here are just a few of the many safety precautions we are currently taking to protect our clients and workers while also being able to deliver the exceptional care:
  • Pre-screening visits to all clients on a regular basis
  • Ensuring our caregiving team has all the necessary PPE (personal protective equipment) to perform their job safely
  • Nurses utilizing telehealth visits when applicable and/or requested by the client
  • Maintaining open communication with all staff through phone and emails
  • ABC offices remain open for field staff needs with adjusted in-office schedules combined with remote worker opportunities to ensure no gaps in service levels while practicing social distancing
  • Utilizing technology for team meetings to ensure teams are up-to-date and that any organizational needs are addressed
Our Management Team participates in weekly calls with the Home Care Aid Council and Department of Public Health. Protocols continue to evolve and develop according to recommendations from these authoritative bodies along with recommendations from Governor Charlie Baker and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). All workers are immediately notified of any changes in protocols and/or any additional safety measures that are established so that we can continue to deliver the best possible care to our clients.
ABC has been keeping seniors safe at home for more than 15 years. Give us a call  at 781-245-1880 to learn how we can help you keep your loved one safe at home. To learn more about ABC visit our website.

Oh how we love garlic and it’s importance as an medicinal herb. It is antibacterial, anti fungal and antiviral.

It is seen as a preventive measure for colds and flu and will offer natural support to the immune system. Through the lens of Ayurveda, garlic kindles agni (digestive fires), destroys natural toxins, supports the lungs and clears excess kapha. (Spring is Kapha season)

Share in the comments below how you use garlic in your diet.

Casey Bernstein, Nia Trainer teaches our class at 1 PM tomorrow!

I was speaking with Casey last week.  Casey was my Nia belt trainer in Albany NY and the owner of The Center for Nia and Yoga.   She is also the choreographer of our fun Slumdog Millionaire routine.  I asked her if she would teach for us on zoom sometime and she said, how about Monday.  So Monday you get to dance with Casey and me.  Hope to see you at this special class tomorrow, May 18th at 1PM EST

For more on Casey, visit her Nia HQ page  or her video on why she teaches Nia.  Like me, she too was a former nurse.

Join us as we revisit an old favorite, Pink Martini.  Fun routine, great music.  If you have not experienced this routine or the music of Pink Martini, you are in for a treat.  Big band, great vocals and a myriad of genres and languages.

If you are new to Nia with Linda, these streaming classes are free.  Share with anyone who you feel needs a little movement in their lives during this period of social isolation.

So here is how it works.  It will be easier for you if you download the Zoom client for meetings for a desktop or laptop, or the app for phones and tablets.

If you have not downloaded the app/client, it should open in a web browser.

You can join early and sit in the waiting room. No magazines but no doctors either.

I’ll leave the audio open till the class starts.  If I leave the audio on, it interferes with my audio and we can’t have that!  I’ll open it back up at the end.  If you need to get my attention, you can raise your hand.  It is an icon in the middle of the bottom of the screen.

Who couldn’t use that right now.

Virtual Class Schedule, Prop Rental, & Mat Delivery from Treetop Yoga Studio

Cream Brown Simple Class Schedule (1)

We are well into a groove of the new virtual platform, and excited to be able to add to our schedule! Have you tried a class via Zoom yet? It’s super easy and a way to stay connected to your practice, breath, and mindful movement as we continue on this journey; isolated yet still very much connected.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR REGISTERING ON MINDBODY AND VIEWING LIVE ZOOM CLASSES

1. Create a free account on Zoom and download the app on a device if you plan to use something other than your phone.

2. Sign up on our schedule using your MindBody account. You can view the classes on the “Schedule” page of our website. Your current class passes and memberships will work, or you can purchase a drop-in class or virtual-class pass. (Only Friday currently appears, but we will update all future classes by the close of the business day on Friday).

3. Prepare your class space with blocks (or alternatives, like a piles of books or big water bottle), straps (towels, belts or ties to robes can work well), bolsters (couch or bed pillows), blankets, and/or towels. Stay hydrated and keep a water bottle handy.

3. Check your email for the link and password to access class. Please be sure to check your spam/junk/promotional inbox.

4. Prepare to link in to Zoom at least five (5) minutes ahead of time to get connected and settled.

5. Click the link from your email and simply watch, or click the video to make it a two-way interaction so your teacher can see you. Your microphone will automatically be muted so your noise will not be heard. (If for some reason the mute does not work, your teacher will ask you to click on the mute icon to prevent the possibility of background noise that all class attendees will hear.)

6. There is a picture of a camera at the bottom as well. If it has a red line through it your face is not showing. If you disable that we can see you. It is up to you if you want to have the camera on or off.

In Zoom, there are different views you can choose. In the top right of your screen, you will see an option to change views. In our opinion, the best one to have on is the one with the teacher at the forefront of your screen. This should be the default setting when you join a class or meeting.

*** Please note: By joining a Zoom call, you agree to possibly being present in the recorded distribution of the video when we create a virtual library. You can always opt out of being seen by clicking the camera icon to turn your personal video off.

Building Blocks Fund

Treetop Yoga invites our community to contribute to a fund that will allow those who are unemployed or under employed to continue their yoga practice.

We are all individual blocks that build the foundation of our studio community. As a way to allow others to still practice, we will be renting out our yoga blocks and bolsters for your home practice. All funds raised will go towards class passes for those in our community who cannot afford to participate in our virtual studio classes at this time.

Cash or Check Only. Block Rental $10, Bolster Rental $20. Email to arrange pick up or delivery.

*Must have a credit card on file at Treetop. Unreturned or damaged props will incur a charge ($20 for blocks; $40 for bolsters).

Finally, if you are in need of a new mat, or want to treat yourself (or a loved one– Mother’s Day is right around the corner!) to a new yoga outfit, we are offering free delivery to Cape Ann! Email erin@treetopyoga.com to inquire about retail purchases.
