Young and old, experienced and novice, strong and just taking the first step on that journey – there is a common thread among everyone that walks through the doors at Cape Ann Power Yoga. When you come to practice we know that you are a person who cares about your own health and well being, the wellness of the people in our community, and happiness, health, and freedom for all beings.

 We know that you are up for a challenge, that you like being in the company of other people with clear heads and clear hearts, and that you aren’t idly sitting at home and waiting for change, but actively searching it out.

Join us to celebrate the changing seasons both in the atmosphere outside and in your own life and trajectory. Cape Ann Power Yoga is offering our quarterly 108 Sun Saluations class this

Friday, December 18 from 6:30-8:30pm.  

108 Sun Salutations is the traditional yogic marking of the Equinox and Solstice. 108 is a number which occurs many times in nature and is used to count buddhist prayers.

Doing 108 Sun Salutation A is like taking a very long walk. At no point is it very difficult, but it requires commitment. With repetition we find an amazing clearing of the heart and head, our postures literally become our prayers.

The sun salutations take about two hours to complete. We’ve allowed for some extra time for getting settled and relaxing after the work. You are certainly invited to modify and to rest as needed. Simply being in the room, surrounded by such a level of dedication will be a transformative experience!

Especially if you haven’t yet come and blessed our space with your presence and sweat: join us. This is a powerful practice to take part in.

Elizabeth Huntsman DeAngelis has been training teachers at the highest level for 15 years. She has worked with thousands of students and teachers across the country. This training will guide you through the specific steps to becoming a strong yoga instructor. 5 Things You Need to Know about Cape Ann Power Yoga

Every yoga studio is different so you may have tried yoga in the past or have a friend who told you what you can expect when you go take a yoga class, so we’re going to take this opportunity to let you know what you can expect when you make the decision to come and see what all of the excitement and buzz is about at Cape Ann Power Yoga. Here are five things you need to know.

  • No membership needed

No membership is needed to come and take class at the studio. You can walk in and pay $10 for one class, or pay in advance and put 5, 10, or 20 classes on your account. If you find that you really like practicing hot power yoga every day and the way it makes you feel you can purchase our unlimited month, six month, and year-long packages. Within 30 days of your first class with us you have the opportunity to buy our one-month unlimited package for just $100.

We happily accept credit cards and will never make you feel uncomfortable about running a $5 or $10 charge.

No advanced sign up is required to come and take class. You can walk right in off the street with just $10 and take class. For your first class you should aim to get to the studio 15 minutes before class starts so you can get the lay of the land, but don’t let traffic or the cut bridge discourage you from showing up a couple of minutes late. There is nothing worse than making moves and hustling to get to yoga class only to still show up late and be met with a scowl. We promise that will never happen to you at Cape Ann Power Yoga. We understand. If you are however prone to showing up at the last minute – it’s a great idea to sign up for class in advance so you can walk right in and unroll your mat.

All levels means ALL levels all the time. We’ve found that the best way for new students to learn is to jump right in and follow along. Our teachers are specially trained to keep an eye on new students while giving you the space to enjoy your experience. If you have any special concerns (injuries, experience level, pregnancy) please be sure to arrive 15 minutes early so that you can talk with the teacher and make a plan. We didn’t create this studio just for people who look like fitness models. We built it for everyday people who want to lose weight, shed stress, gain comfort in their bodies, and give themselves the chance to feel great. Jump right in – we so sincerely want to share this practice with you.

Some of these hounds went over this fence, some went through the gap on the right, and some went around. You can take it to your degree – we’re all going to the same place and we’re on this journey together.

You will sweat. This is a heated practice and is deeply detoxifying. You will feel most comfortable in form-fitting, synthetic blend clothing. Wear what you would wear if you were going for a run on a hot summer day. Bring your mat and yogitoes so that you won’t slip and slide around on your sweat. If you don’t have a mat and yogitoes don’t even worry about it – we have them for rent for just $5. The mat provides cushioning between you and the floor and the yogitioes gives you a solid grip on your mat so you can focus on practicing yoga instead of sliding around your mat. Be sure to bring a big bottle of water and a good attitude and we’ll guide you the rest of the way.

Eat and drink! Please come to class well hydrated and well nourished. This is a vigorous practice and you and you need to be fueled. Especially as it gets colder you should actively remember to drink lots of water so that your system can operate and you can feel great. Depending on your digestion you may want a light snack or juice before practice and we always encourage our students to eat healthy, real food to replenish your system after practicing. We also recommend coffee or tea on your way to practice. There is not very much lying on the floor at our studio and a little caffeine can go a long way.

For a limited time Y members can get a voucher from the front desk at the Y and bring it to Cape Ann Power Yoga where you can buy both a 5 class pass for $25 and a 10 class pass for $50. That means that if you’re a member of Cape Ann YMCA and you want to come practice hot power yoga you can take 15 classes for $75. That’s incredible! The best part is that if you already practice at Cape Ann Power Yoga and you’re a member at the Y – this program is available to you too!

After your first 15 classes, Y members can either purchase a monthly unlimited pass for $85 or a 10-pack of classes for just $75. The 10-pack expires 2 months from the date of purchase, but once you get hooked we expect you’ll be coming well more than once a week anyway.

Cape Ann Power Yoga is now open in Brown’s Mall in Downtown Gloucester. We teach Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga in a clean and heated (90-95 degrees) room with a view to the sky and out to the harbor. When you come to class you can expect to breathe, move, sweat, work, stretch, and let go of things that you have been holding on to. You can expect to be challenged – and that means that you’re getting stronger and actually improving yourself, not just thinking or talking about it. You’ll be practicing next to construction workers, secretaries, veterans, yoga teachers, mountain bikers, surfers, runners, weightlifters, teenagers, octogenarians, and a guy named Dirt.
