Do you love drinking or smoking weed?

Hit the reset button on your health and join us for Sober October at Cape Ann Power Yoga! It’s a lot more fun than it sounds like – and the people you’ll meet are a lot of fun as well.

That’s me on the left.

Each October we invite everyone from the community to join us together in a fun challenge of no smoking weed, no drinking, and doing 15 hot yoga practices in the month of October. It’s called Sober October and it’s fun because it isn’t just for teetotalers and saints – but for those of us that hit it a little harder too.

No photo description available.

Last year I just made it to 15, but some people found with all the time they saved by not being hungover they had more time for doing yoga and went literally off the chart.

The point of Sober October is to attract some of the people that don’t necessarily think that yoga is for them, and expand our reach a little deeper into the community. During the month there are special events (LIVE MUSIC CLASS WITH MIKE FORGETTE!), fun contests, giveaways, and a grand prize winner will be drawn from everyone who successfully completes the month for a $200 Gift Certificate to Duckworth’s Bistrot!

The best part is that you don’t ever have to have done yoga a day in your life. You can be inflexible, out of shape, smoking cigarettes on your way to class (I did on my way to TEACH for the first 2 years we were in business). There are no meetings, no required reading, and it counts as going to yoga if you come set up a mat and lie down and just focus on your breathing for the whole class without even doing any poses. After it’s all over if you want you can light up a joint and drink a cocktail at 12:01 on November 1 – we won’t even try to stop you.

We are offering a free introductory class (the first of your 15) on Tuesday, October 1 from 7:30-8:30pm. That way you can come and try it out – do a class, and see if it’s going to be a fit for you before you sign up. If it’s not for you – it’s not for you. No big deal – no judgement, no hard sell.

We’ll walk you through all the stuff – how to check in to class, where to put your shoes, how to set up your mat, how to do the poses, and how to rest if you need a break during class (which everyone does at some point).

After class is over – if you dig it and you want to join us, you can sign up. If you already attend our studio you’ll just need to buy enough classes or a membership that will allow you to complete the month, and for those of you who are brand new it’s just $50 for your first month unlimited. It’s an awesome deal.

It’s interesting to me as I talk to people about Sober October how many folks say, “oh I don’t drink much anyway that would be no problem but I couldn’t ever give up MY WEED.”… and the other handful of people who say, “Pff I don’t smoke pot that’s for stoners but it’s probably been 20 years since I went a month without drinking.” Look – we aren’t here to vilify you or whatever choices you make. We’re here to offer a fun, inexpensive, community oriented activity – and honestly selfishly I need a break from the sauce after endless beers at the beach this summer.

And as a special treat we have our friend, student, and head shop owner Mike Forgette playing live music to kick off the month during a special class on October 2 while Master Baptiste teach Elizabeth DeAngelis calls poses! This class is all levels (beginners welcome!) and more info can be found here.

If you have any questions at all – I am available to answer them. You can email us at capeannpoweryoga@gmail.com (just Elizabeth and I see that),  or call or text me directly at 617 821 6734 and I’ll get back to you in the evening. Our goal is to make this as accessible, doable, and fun as possible. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Dave DeAngelis

Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency Syndrom

An alarming amount of people in the United States currently suffer from Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency Syndrom and don’t even know it! As the name suggests, this syndrome is a condition where an individual produces a lower amount of cannabinoids than experts consider to be essential in the promotion of health, vitality, and well-being. This deficiency can leave people susceptible to chronic pain, Fibromyalgia, Anorexia, Depression, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, chronic migraines, Multiple Sclerosis, PTSD, Neuropathy, Huntington’s Disease, and Parkinson’s Disease, to name a few. However, by supplementing CBD, we now have a way to prevent and counteract these ailments! Please come by and chat with us about it and take advantage of our free samples!

Ladies Surf and Yoga Workshop

Ladies Surf and Yoga Nights

Treetop Yoga and Cape Ann SUP + Surf Co are so excited to partner up to offer a THIRD lovely Ladies Surf and Yoga workshop to the community of Cape Ann. The water is still warm in September, and surf is usually awesome, so gather for one last beach day with your girlfriends and conclude on the mats for a flow and restore yoga class.
This workshop may push you outside of your comfort zone as you explore the complimentary activities of surfing and yoga in the same evening. We will meet at Good Harbor Beach Parking Lot to slide into wetsuits and then head for the surf.  The surf lesson will start with a brief on-land lesson to practice paddling, pop-ups, and cover a few safety precautions. Once we have answered everyone’s questions, we’ll head into the water! Everyone is learning. We ask that you come with an open-mind and a can-do attitude. It’s less about how “good you are” and more about “how much fun you are having.” After all, the best surfer in the water is always, always the one having the most fun. We will have multiple instructors in the water to give you pointers, help you into waves and teach you the best technique.
After surfing, we will lose the wet suit, head to Treetop Yoga to change into comfy yoga clothing and settle onto the mat for a recovery yoga class from the effort of surfing. The class will start with a traditional vinyasa flow class and standing poses, but we will eventually make our way to the floor to close with some restorative poses for the ultimate release.

Surfing 4:45 Arrival at Good Harbor Beach for check in and wetsuit fitting, 5:00-6:00 surf lesson

Yoga 6:30-7:45 at Treetop Yoga (3A Pond Rd, Gloucester)

Investment $45 (includes wetsuit and surf board)

Limited to 13, but can go above 13 for individuals who have own equipment (wetsuit and board)

*These workshops are definitely all weather dependent. Cape Ann SUP checks the weather and winds about 10x per day but, as we all know, things can change quickly here on Cape Ann. If for whatever reason we need to cancel the class, you will receive a refund and we will try to inform you at least a full hour before the start of class (Please leave your email and phone number so that we can contact you, if need be).

A Brief Dosing Guide to CBD

Dosing CBD can be a bit tricky at first. However, there are some standard rules to follow when trying to identify the correct amount to take.

Firstly, they always use the phrase “low and slow” when it comes to CBD usage. With the exception of severe pain management, most ailments can be managed with minimal amounts of these supplements. While it may take a few days for the CBD oil to build up in your system, the amount is less important than the consistency and regularity of taking it.

Additionally, when CBD is supplemented in low amounts, it acts as a stimulant. Alternatively when used in large amounts, it functions as a depressant. Therefore, if you’re having trouble with sleeping, make sure not to take too little an amount. On the other hand, if you are dosing with CBD in the morning, try not to take too much.

Finally, it is always best to keep a close eye on your progress. As every body absorbs and reacts to CBD differently, not all doses will be the same between different individuals. It is always recommended to keep some sort of journal or log to help understand how much CBD to supplement. This way, you can document how much you took, how long you felt it took to kick in, how long it lasted, and adjust your dosage accordingly.

Any questions? We are open 11:30 – 5:00 everyday except Tuesdays.

Our parking ramp is closed for maintenance until October 7th.
