Spring is a perfect time to detox and reset of our digestive fires (Agni) to help remove built up toxins (Ama) from the heavy winter diet.

Our 3-day cleanse will help to reset your digestive fires to help flush out toxins and restore the gut-brain connection to improve your over all health. You will see improvement on fatigue, mental fog, depression, anxiety, and bloating.

**We are incorporating a free “Virtual” spring sunrise yoga class, led by Erin Waltz McKay of TreetopYoga in Gloucester, that recognizes Kapha’s earthy and watery nature. As the sister science of Ayurveda, a yoga practice can boost energy in the body. (this is a fluid situation so date will be announced)

Acorn Squash Stuffed with….

Through the lens of Ayurveda, we are now in the heart of the Vata season, time to think of adding more sweet, sour and salty taste to our diet to balance and pacify the Vata imbalance brought on by the cooling temperatures and winds.

Ayurveda Wellness Healing loves this wonderful recipe that blends the sweetness of acorn squash. (although any squash is great) with nuts and quinoa. Feel free to also top with a little ghee for extra warming support.

ACORN SQUASH STUFFED WITH QUINOA AND ROASTED ALMONDS:
recipe adapted from Whole Living
serves 2-4 depending on how many squash you have

Ingredients

• 2-4 acorn squashes, halved and seeds removed – if you’re serving 2 people get 1 squash,
• 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, divided, plus more for brushing on the squash
• sea salt and fresh ground pepper
• ½ cup dry, quinoa, rinsed –1 cups filtered water
• 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
• 1/2 cup feta, crumbled
• 1/2 cup raw almonds with skins, coarsely chopped
• 2 teaspoons red-wine vinegar

Instructions
Preheat oven to 425 degrees, Cut your squash in half and scoop out the seeds. Brush each squash half with a bit of olive oil, and season with some salt and pepper. Roast the squash cut-side down on a baking sheet until tender when pierced with a fork, and caramelized, about 30 minutes.

While the squash is cooking, bring the ½ cup well rinsed quinoa and 1 cups water to a boil in a small sauce pan.

Once the quinoa has come to a boil, give it a stir, cover it and reduce the heat to simmer. Cook the quinoa until all the water is absorbed, about 10-15 minutes. Let the quinoa cool just a bit and then fluff with a fork.

While the quinoa and squash are cooking, wash and chop up your parsley and toast up the almonds. Coarsely chop up the almonds.
Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chopped almonds to the skillet and stir frequently until golden brown in spots, about 2-3 minutes. Transfer the nuts to a paper towel lined plate to get the grease off. Sprinkle the almonds with some fine sea salt. Set them aside.

In a large bowl, combine the quinoa, 1/2 cup chopped parsley, 1/2 cup feta, almonds, 2 teaspoons red-wine vinegar and 2 tablespoons olive oil. Season with salt and pepper.

Fill up your squash halves with the quinoa and dig in.

Got leftover quinoa? Just reheat it in a skillet with a touch of coconut oil or add almond milk and raisins for a yummy breakfast cereal the next morning.

Fall is Vata Season ~

Fall is Vata Season ~

Fall is Vata season…think dry, cold, light, rough, sharp and mobil. Similar to the weather and it is a time when many show signs of Vata aggravation keeping us busy at Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC!

Signs of Imbalance include:
Anxiety, nervousness, loneliness, fear, restlessness, giddiness and confusion. The excess vata in the mind can also leave you feeling like you can’t calm down or on edge. New Moon = New Beginnings

New Moon = New Beginnings

New Moon in Aquarius…Wow, what a gift!

On February 4th, the new moon in Aquarius arrived. Bringing with it a fresh start, this new moon is the first in 2019 that is free of shadow. January was consumed with both a lunar and solar eclipse, neither of which were open to interpretation. Eclipses ten to dominate the scene with their agenda. This new moon is more of a clean slate for us to work with and will perhaps feel like the first new moon of 2019.

What you start with this new moon has help, encouragements, and a door or two opened for it. Whatever it is you are working towards, this new moon gives your efforts the lift they might need to get you there with greater ease.

The more you believe in the validity of your dreams, desires, and visions for your life, the more real they’ll feel.

Here is a question to ask yourself to get started:

“What am I? What am I not?”

Then start writing or speaking your dreams, desires, passion by saying:

“I will” in place of “When I”

Mint Tea…

Mint Tea…

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC loves to cool down with mint tea…

Cooling Mint Tea

1 cup fresh peppermint leaves

1 quart boiling water

1 quart room temperature water

2 teaspoons sweetener

Pour the quart of boiling water over the mint leaves. Cover and let steep for 20 minutes. Strain the tea into a pitcher or glass jar. Add cool water sweeteners. If you are adding honey, make sure the water has cooled down first. This is a great drink for aiding digestion. Drink at room temperature for maximum assimilation. Remember that iced and chilled drinks dampen our digestive fires, making it difficult to properly digest our food.
