Free Yoga for Trauma Survivors

Friday, November 2, 5:30-6:45 PM

HAWC (Healing Abuse, Working for Change) and Treetop Yoga are teaming up to offer a very special monthly workshop for survivors of abuse. All classes will be unique, as instructor Hilary Richard leads participants in meditation, breathwork, and gentle yoga postures with the intention of releasing trauma and finding empowerment. Shaina Doberman from HAWC will be available before and after class for anyone needing one on one support; there will be no group discussions during these events.

These workshops are intended for those who have experienced domestic abuse and/or sexual assault; no prior yoga experience is necessary. Classes are free to survivors of all genders who register through HAWC; drop-in participants welcome with a suggested donation of $5 (cash only).  No class in December. Dates for January, February, and March TBD.

Contact Shaina at 978-283-8642, ShainaD@hawcdv.org with questions or to register.

YOGA IS FREE FOR VETERANS IN NOVEMBER

YOGA IS FREE FOR VETERANS IN NOVEMBER

In 2017 we were honored to give away 62 free classes to veterans and active duty military personnel in the month of November.

This year we’re hoping to make it over 100.

vetnovember

Spurred in part by the crushing opioid epidemic, the Department of Defense and other federal agencies have been spearheading efforts to manage and mitigate pain and mental health problems among active service members. Yoga, as it turns out, is one of the rising stars. While those in the trenches say there is a long way to go before yoga can be broadly and systemically deployed within the military, the foundation is being laid for using asana, meditation, and other holistic therapies to make military personnel more resilient.

A message to veterans.

Hello,

My name is Dave DeAngelis. My wife Elizabeth and I own and operate Cape Ann Power Yoga. We understand that the freedom we have to go about our lives in peace, raise our family, and run our yoga studio are the direct consequence of the sacrifices you and yours have made. We are grateful to you, and hopeful that we can in our humble way serve you by teaching you and providing you with a space to come and practice yoga.

This practice can benefit people physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. We believe in it because we see it working in all types of different people every day. Come and join us and become a part of our community.

If you have little or no experience with yoga – that’s even better. We will provide you with a mat, a towel, and as many free classes as you can take in the month of November. Just show up to any class in November and let the desk person know you’re here for Veterans’ November and class is on is. Every time.

And if you’re interested but not sure if this is for you or you don’t want to dive right in with the general public, we will help you with that too. I’ll personally meet with you at the studio outside of a normal class time to walk you through, get you comfortable and set up, and on your path to practicing yoga. If you want more assistance after that we will set you up with private (or small group if you have veteran friends) instruction with one of our teachers.

We aren’t just offering free class – we’re offering to do whatever it takes to help you develop a regular yoga practice in your life. Please reach out with any questions. You can email Elizabeth and I at capeannpoweryoga@gmail.com or call or text me directly at 6178216734. If you want to make this work for you – we’ll see to it that it does.

I look forward to meeting you, and the enrichment that your presence will bring to our community.

Sincerely,

Dave DeAngelis

Full Moon Restorative Sound Healing

Copy of Full Moon Sound Healing Journey with Elaine O'Rourke-2

Heal, Restore & Clarify your Intentions with Elaine O’Rourke
Elaine will guide you through an amazing blend of restorative yoga with sound healing. This elixir is the perfect offering to embrace the Full Moon. Subtle guided imagery and contemplation will help clarify your intentions. When we can quiet the mind, the creative energies can flow with a natural ease.

What is it all about, how does it work?  Well, think about it for a moment.  How some songs can immediately bring up a memory or feeling of a person, time in life, place…Sometimes it is just one note that triggers a response.  How amazing!

But what is so special about singing bowls, gongs, the voice when used appropriately?  They vibrate at certain frequencies, some are perfectly tuned, some not, they create other harmonics but all making a “good sound”.  Everything including our organs, cellular structure have a frequency so when you sound various bowls and gongs they are resonating at these various frequencies.

Why does it work so well in our bodies?  The spinal column and brain are surrounded by the cerebrial spinal fluid.  We are made up of 70% water/fluids which is an excellent conduit of sound.  Plus our skin and bones absorb sound.

Enjoy a meditative journey through the beautiful sounds of Quartz Crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, gongs, angelic voicing along with other instrumentation.  Elaine utilizes her knowledge of Yoga and Sound to energize the chakras and restore balance to the body.  The trance-formative vibrations have the ability to bring you to a deep place of relaxation and awareness in order to connect you with your “Higher Intuitive Self”.  This is a multi-layered journey unlike any other.

Spaghetti Squash ~

Spaghetti Squash ~

Don’t you just love Spaghetti Squash?

It’s that big yellow thing in the produce aisle that you quizzically look at and think – “what is that” and “how do you cook it”?

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC has a favorite spaghetti squash dish and it’s so easy to make.

Prep Time: 1 hr.
Servings: 2 – 4

Ingredients:
1 lg. spaghetti squash
1/2 cup water, plus more as needed

Preheat oven to 375. Pour the water into a 13×9 inch glass baking dish. Cut the ends off the squash and discard. Cut the squash in 1/2 lengthwise. Remove the seeds. Place each 1/2 cut-side down in the prepared pan. Bake for 45 min., or until the squash is fork-tender, adding another 1/2 cup water if necessary to prevent the squash from burning. Let cool for 5 to 10 min. The flesh will break into spaghetti-like strands as you scrape it out with a fork.

Serve with Olive Oil, salt and pepper or top with Pesto Chutney – so yummy!
