Celebrate American Heart Month – Say No to Cigarettes

American Heart Month – Smoking is a Major Risk Factor for Heart Disease. Besides causing breathing problems and lung cancer, smoking is also a major cause of cardiovascular (heart and blood vessel) disease.

Here Are the Facts:

  • Cigarette smoking accounts for about one-fifth of all deaths from heart disease in the United States.
  • Smokers have a two to four fold increase in coronary artery disease and about a 70 percent higher death rate from coronary artery disease than do nonsmoker.
  • Smoking is a major risk factor for heart disease.

New Moon = New Beginnings

New Moon = New Beginnings

New Moon in Aquarius…Wow, what a gift!

On February 4th, the new moon in Aquarius arrived. Bringing with it a fresh start, this new moon is the first in 2019 that is free of shadow. January was consumed with both a lunar and solar eclipse, neither of which were open to interpretation. Eclipses ten to dominate the scene with their agenda. This new moon is more of a clean slate for us to work with and will perhaps feel like the first new moon of 2019.

What you start with this new moon has help, encouragements, and a door or two opened for it. Whatever it is you are working towards, this new moon gives your efforts the lift they might need to get you there with greater ease.

The more you believe in the validity of your dreams, desires, and visions for your life, the more real they’ll feel.

Here is a question to ask yourself to get started:

“What am I? What am I not?”

Then start writing or speaking your dreams, desires, passion by saying:

“I will” in place of “When I”

“Blockage is disease/Flow is health”😊

February is American Heart Month

February 1st Begin American Heart Health Month; Go Red!

Cardiovascular Disease Effects Nearly 50% of Americans, according to the American Heart association. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States.

To help prevent heart disease and increase awareness of its effects, Dreamtime Wellness LLC is proudly participating in American Heart Month.

  • FREE Blood Pressure check with any wellness session during the month of February

The Good News – You can make healthy changes to lower your risk of developing heart disease. Controlling and preventing risk factors is also important for people who already have heart disease. To lower your risk:

  • Stop smoking and avoid secondhand smoke.
  • Control your cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure.
  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
  • Daily activity.
  • Healthy eating.
  • Healthy weight.

Are You At Risk for Heart Disease? Talk to your doctor. Here is what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have to say about risk of heart disease –

According to a report from Harvard Medical School’s Harvard Health letter, “The latest research confirms that people who practice meditation are significantly less likely to have a heart attack or stroke or die within five years. Cardiologist and professor at Harvard Medical School was reported to state –

“Meditation can be a useful part of cardiovascular risk reduction.”

Meditation can help by:

  • Lowering stress
  • Lowering heart rate and blood pressure
  • Improved rate of breathing and blood oxygenation
  • Decreased insulin resistance and risk of diabetes
  • Reducing cortisol (hormone secreted in response to stress) levels

Check With Your Doctor Before Beginning a Mediation Program. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), “meditation is generally considered to be safe for healthy people, but there have been rare reports that meditation could cause or worsen symptoms in people with certain psychiatric problems like anxiety and depression. People with existing mental health conditions should speak with their health care providers before starting a meditative practice, and make their meditation instructor aware of their condition.”

Winter Safety Tips

This morning’s bright sunshine on the dusting of snow while beautiful, is deceiving.  The temperature at 9 a.m. in Gloucester MA was only 4º!  Todays  weather forecast predicts a high of 18º.

‘Polar Vortex.’  The National Weather service describes this as “a large area of low pressure and cold air surrounding both of the Earth’s poles. It ALWAYS exists near the poles, but weakens in summer and strengthens in winter.”

The Bright Side. I actually feel lucky, considering what parts of the midwest are enduring  – dangerously cold temperatures of subzero, up to 40º below with the wind chill factor in some areas. Many businesses and schools are closed. At 40º, exposed skin can suffer frost bite within 5 minutes of exposure.

Check on Elderly Family and Neighbors. Being outside or even in a cold house can lead to hypothermia, a body temperature of 95°F or lower. Hypothermia can cause many health problems, such as a heart attack, kidney problems, liver disease or even death. Cold weather extremes are especially detrimental for children, the elderly and anyone with cardiac and pulmonary disease. If you have underlying health issues, talk to your doctor about winter safety. Here are steps to lower your chance of getting hypothermia from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

“If you don’t like the weather in New England now, just wait a few minutes.” — Mark Twain

My Weather Prediction – More snow to come. 🙂 Fortunately, last night’s squall only brought a dusting of snow on Cape Ann, but winter is not over yet. Here are some safety tips for shoveling and safe snow blowing for the next snow storm. Call a snow plowing company now to schedule their service. By the time a snow storm arrives, they might be fully booked!

Do you have a favorite snow plow company? Let GMG know.

Safety Tips from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help keep you safe in these extreme weather conditions.

Traveling in Winter. Today is a good day to stay indoors, relax and enjoy a cup of hot tea, but If you do have to get out in the cold or travel, here are some Tips for Traveling in Cold Weather.

During Extreme Weather. If possible stay indoors and enjoy a cup of tea, otherwise follow the safety guidelines from the CDC, NIH and your physician.

The Good NewsSpring is only 48 days away!
