Improve your brain function by Dancing?? Try Nia before you forget!

Can you dance your way to better brain function?

The answer is YES!  A recent study from the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, Molecular, Cellular and Integrative Neurosciences, Colorado State University headed by Dr. Aga Burzynska shows that dancing increases white matter in the brain.  Think of white matter as well insulated wiring in an engine.  The more white matter you have, the better your brain conducts electrical activity, hence better brain function.

Check out this short video on the study.  In the text of the video is a link to the full study.  You may want to wait till you have had a few weeks of dancing before you tackle the complicated scientific literature.

Not dancing you say?  Not sure you can dance?  Need a class that can ease you into movement?  Well you are in luck.  Nia is a great way to do just that!

Don’t get caught up in your own shadow…March 5 – 28!

Mercury retrograde occurs at two levels. At one level, there is not much you can do with the actions of others, except to be more conscious and prepare for delays and errors by double checking.

But at the personal level you can do a lot in order to avoid the consequences of Mercury Retrograde. Most of us encounter the consequences when we are not centered, aware or conscious of what is going on around us, and more often than not the culprit is that we are not acting from our heart and spirit.

Instead we are reacting from our needs, our hurts, from our buttons being pushed, or the way that we take care of others and not ourselves. In that way we act from our shadow, and that is what mercury retrograde is all about.

Mercury Retrograde occurs when it is moving backwards, into its shadow, and thus communication, scheduling, transportation and judgment becomes cloudy or error prone. As much as outer work is challenged by Mercury Retrograde, introspection and inner work is very supported. Take advantage of Mercury Retrograde by clearing your own tendencies to get caught up in your own shadows and those of others.

New Moon = New Beginnings

New Moon = New Beginnings

Todays new moon is a gift of new beginnings! It’s a shift to call in what you want to manifest in your life. Activate what you want by calling it into your life.

Here’s a few ways to do just that:

• Clear your Energy to get centered ~ Take a salt bath or space clear your energy with sage, a feather or a flame.
• Set Your Intentions ~ declare to the new moon what your vision is ~ declare it boldly and with courage. Write them down and then speaking them loudly ~ by physically speaking them you symbolize your intention to manifest your goals.
Then:
• Express Gratitude ~ from your heart and your soul believe that this IS granted to you and express gratitude.
• Act ~ Take those steps forward toward your goal daily. You will be surprised by what transpires between now and the next Full Moon ~ a time of manifestation.

Motown Music Routine! Nia classes on Cape Ann in March

motown shoutout graphicNew Motown Routine

Nia will groove to the sounds of Motown! We will take the choreography from the last routine, Source, and give it some soul by putting it to the groovy sounds of songs like Baby Love, Midnight Train to Georgia, Superstition and of course Shout! We will still be focusing on using the eyes to guide the movements of the head and spine but in a more funky way
