THE THREE PHASES OF LIFE – By Vishnu Om

#Ayurveda is a preventative system of medicine and health care but also a guide to support you in optimal living.

How we choose to live our lifestyle will determine if we will incur disease or redirect it.

Our lifestyle should be a reflection of our life, and our life should be supported by choices that enliven us versus enslave us.

As we live according to the daily cycle, seasonal cycle, annual cycle, lunar cycle and life cycles, we can recycle…

Hold the Ice!

Hold the Ice!

Ayurveda is all about your digestive fires and ice is not your friend.

Think of your digestive fires as a bonfire you are going to cook your food on but you poured water on it first and now the heat of the fire needed to cook the food is gone. Yep – same happens when we drink our beverages with ice!

Spring Barley Risotto ~

Spring Barley Risotto ~

Spring Barley Risotto

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC loves a healthier alternative to the more traditional arborio risotto rice, barley adds iron and fiber to this fresh take on risotto. One cup of the green peas found in this dish offers more protein than a large egg.

Serves 4
2 Tablespoons oiive oil
1 cup pearled barley
2 leeks, white and green parts only, thinly sliced
½ cup white wind or water
2 cups water
Coarse salt and fresh ground pepper
14 ½ ounces vegetable broth
1 bunch of asparagus (about 1 pound) trimmed and cut in 2 inch pieces
1 box frozen peas defrosted (or fresh)
½ cup fresh grated parmesan

In a large saucepan, heat oil over medium heat. Add Barley and leeks and cook until it begins to soften about 5 to 7 minutes. Add ½ cup wine or water and cook for another 5 minutes and water starts to evaporate. Add remaining 2 cups of water and bring to boil and season with salt and pepper. Reduce heat and simmer until liquid absorbs, about 10 minutes

Add broth and continue to cook , stirring occasionally until barley is tender and creamy, about 10 minutes. Add asparagus and cook until tender another 5 minutes. Stir in peas until heated through (if using fresh cook throughly), Add parmesan and mint and season with salt and pepper. Enjoy!

Curried Apple and Celery Soup ~

Curried Apple and Celery Soup ~

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC loves the following spring soup recipe, so yummy and it’s good for your digestion too!

Curried Apple and Celery Soup Recipe

Ingredients
(4 servings)
2 Stalks Celery, roughly chopped
2 Green Apples, peeled and roughly chopped
1/2 cup Milk
1/2-cup Vegetable stock, or water
1/2 teaspoon Cumin powder
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon Powder
Salt and Pepper, to taste

To begin making the Apple Celery Soup, melt the butter in a saucepan. Add in the chopped celery root and the apples.

Sprinkle some salt and sauté until the celery and the apple turn a little soft.

Keep the saucepan partially covered so the steam that gets generated helps them to cook faster.

Stir in the remaining ingredients and add it to the blender. If you don’t have a blender that can’t take in heat, then wait for the mixture to cool before you can blend it.

Blend the apple celery soup mixture in the blender until smooth.

Pour the soup back into the saucepan and check for the salt and pepper levels. Adjust to suit your taste.

When you are ready to serve the soup, give the soup a quick boil

Enjoy!

Cilantro Mint Chutney ~

Cilantro Mint Chutney ~

Cilantro Mint Chutney is Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC favorite spring time go to!

Spring is know as Kapha season through the lens of Ayurveda and we need to help ourselves by eating foods that will help lift the fog, dampness and break up mucus.

Cilantro calms our immune sensitivity to pollen. It is hypoallergenic and cools the liver.

Mint refreshes the mind, disperses dullness and lifts the fog. It breaks up mucus and fluid stagnation in the lungs, throat and sinuses. Mint and cilantro are both diuretics with the potential to drain excess water via the urinary tract. Raw onions have a cleansing effect on the liver and a laxative effect in the GI. Wild onions, a common weed, are a great addition to the spring time menu.

New Moon = New Beginnings

New Moon = New Beginnings

Todays new moon is a gift of new beginnings! It’s a shift to call in what you want to manifest in your life. Activate what you want by calling it into your life.

Here’s a few ways to do just that:

• Clear your Energy to get centered ~ Take a salt bath or space clear your energy with sage, a feather or a flame.
• Set Your Intentions ~ declare to the new moon what your vision is ~ declare it boldly and with courage. Write them down and then speaking them loudly ~ by physically speaking them you symbolize your intention to manifest your goals.
Then:
• Express Gratitude ~ from your heart and your soul believe that this IS granted to you and express gratitude.
• Act ~ Take those steps forward toward your goal daily. You will be surprised by what transpires between now and the next Full Moon ~ a time of manifestation.

Everything around us has an effect on something within us. The frequency of the moon affects the mind and influences our feelings, emotions, and desires. The practice of making Ghee on a full moon is considered auspicious because the moon is thought to influence “Soma” the source of nourishment, nectar, and bliss. Soma is a Sanskrit term which is derived from the root word “su” which means to energize, stimulate, expand and grow.

Think of Ghee as liquefied sunlight!
Ghee is the most refined end product of milk and one should consider using in place of butter. Because the milk solids have been removed, it has a higher smoking point than butter.

Yummy Grapefruit ~

Yummy Grapefruit ~

Grapefruit ~

In Ayurveda, the secret of the grapefruit lies in its powerful flavors, sour and bitter. These cleansing tastes stimulate the flow of bile, diluting and flushing it out of the gallbladder and into the small intestine. Stagnant bile tends to collect and thicken in the gall bladder, where the liver stores the bile after producing it, forming problematic sludge and stones. The sludge inhibits the drainage of bile, congesting the liver. Sour and bitter flavors encourage the bile to move and flush toxins out of the liver to the relief of your newly cleansed liver cells.

*Grapefruits are contraindicated for high blood pressure or when using anti-depressants. If you take thyroid medication, please check with your doctor before adding grapefruit to your diet.

Grapefruit with Ginger, Honey and Cardamom

Ingredients
2 pinch Cardamon
2 pinch Ginger (dried)
1 c Grapefruit
1 tsp Honey

Preperation
1. Peel grapefruit
2. Slice in flat circles
3. Mix ginger and cardmom with honey into a spicy paste. Drizzle over the sliced grapefruit. Cardamom is optional.

Enjoy this wonderful recipe for breakfast to help you stay balanced this winter.
