A solution to common foot problems -Nia classes on Cape Ann

Do you suffer from pain, neuropathy, poor balance and other common foot ailments?

According to AARP, there are many simple measures you can take to fix some of these pesky pedal problems.  Here’s a link to the full article https://www.aarp.org/health/conditions-treatments/info-2019/common-feet-problems-solutions.html

Here are two solutions they offer to help feet, both of which can be found in a Nia class.

1. Get on your feet

The more you sit, the more you deactivate your glute muscles — and proper foot function requires strong glutes, hips and abs, Splichal says. Exercises like hip bridges and planks encourage not only tummy work and hip extension (counterposes for sitting), but also help you practice getting up and down from the floor — something research has correlated with longevity.

2. Go barefoot

The nerves on the bottom of your feet are even more receptive than those on your hands — but stuffing your feet into shoes all day deprives them of the sensory stimulation they need to help your body move. Barefoot exercise such as Nia, yoga and Pilates, and walking around barefoot at home, can help.

Come try a Nia class.  We move, safetly and barefooted to fun music.   Try a free class at the Gloucester Senior center on Mondays at 1pm.  Other classes around Cape Ann, see info below.

Rosewater Lemonade ~

Summer heat…

The heat of the summer can provoke anger and irritability, especially when one is dehydrated. The mere smell of a rose cools ones anger and criticism.

Drinking Rose Water helps play in cooling Pitta (fire & water)… here is a recipe for Rosewater Lemonade, one of Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC go to summer drinks…

Rosewater Lemonade:

1/8 whole lemon
2 pinch Rose Water
2 c water
1 tsp Raw Sugar

Mix all ingredients together. Served cool as a lemonade or frozen as a sorbet. Enjoy!

Ladies Yoga & Surf Workshop with Anneliese Brosch

Saturday July 13th 5:00-7:30

Treetop Yoga and Cape Ann SUP + Surf Co are so excited to partner up this summer in order to offer a lovely Ladies Surf and Yoga workshop to the community of Cape Ann. This workshop may push you outside of your comfort zone as you explore the complimentary activities of surfing and yoga in the same evening. This workshop will start at Treetop Yoga where we will prepare our bodies and minds for an hour in the water. The class will focus on shoulder/heart openers and other surf-related postures to cultivate fluidity within our mind body and spirit. Following the yoga class, the group will head down to Long Beach (the Gloucester end) to slide into our wetsuits and get in the water. The surf lesson will start with a brief on-land lesson to practice paddling, pop-ups, and cover a few safety precautions. Once we have answered everyone’s questions, we’ll head into the water! Everyone is learning. We ask that you come with an open-mind and a can-do attitude. It’s less about how “good you are” and more about “how much fun you are having.” After all, the best surfer in the water is always, always the one having the most fun. We will have multiple instructors in the water to give you pointers, help you into waves and teach you the best technique.Yoga 5:00 – 6:00pm
Surfing 6:30 – 7:30pmInvestment $45 Register Here

*These workshops are definitely all weather dependent. Cape Ann SUP checks the weather and winds about 10x per day but, as we all know, things can change quickly here on Cape Ann. If for whatever reason we need to cancel the class, you will receive a refund and we will try to inform you at least a full hour before the start of class (Please leave your email and phone number so that we can contact you, if need be).

**Parking at Long Beach. Typically, Long Beach has paid parking but after 5:00pm, you should have no problem parking in the grass lot off of Beachland Ave for free.

The Empty Cup ~

The Empty Cup ~

An empty cup is a gift

It allows us to have walked away from things, people, institutions etc that were no longer filling us up.

It takes strength to empty our cups.

When our cup is empty it can be filled with anything, anyone we like, desire.

An empty cup helps us reach out to things “we” like, need.

When our cup is filled with “us” joy has a chance to appear.

Too often we loose ourselves in relationships with friends, family, partners, jobs etc that are not filling up our cup with “us” but them.
