What Settings Do You Prefer for Relaxation and Learning?

Home much does the environment affect your ability to relax and learn?
I have offered sessions and trainings in many settings, from hospitals to horse farms. No matter where I am, I feel the work is the same. I wonder though, how much does the space make a difference to the enjoyment and learning experience of students and clients.
What is your favorite setting in which to ‘Relax and Learn?’ This poll only takes a few moments. Your feedback is much appreciated and will determine the location of future classes and sessions.

The Reiki (Kyogi) Principles –

Today Only …

Let Go of Anger,

Let go of Worry,

With Thankfulness,

Work Diligently (on one’s self)

Be Kind to (Self and) Others.

—From Founder of Usui Reiki Ryohō, USUI Mikao Sensei

(B. August 15, 1865 – D. March 9, 1926; as written on his memorial stone.)

Photos here are of places where sessions, classes and retreats have been/will be offered. The first photo was taken at the North Shore Medical Center, in the hospital. No matter where I have offered reiki sessions people report “feeling relaxed.” So I wonder, how much do the aesthetics of the setting matter? What are your thoughts?

REIKI TRAINING – Dreamtime Wellness™ Reiki Trainings, 1st Degree/Shoden (Beginning Level) will resume in April.  The answers to this poll may determine ‘where.’ This beginning level of reiki practice is intended for self-care and self-healing. You will also learn to offer reiki on family, friends, and pets. Includes a manual, mentoring, and certificate of completion at the end of 50 hours of training, practical experience and self-study.

CEU’s – Offered to case managers, body workers, massage therapists nurses, and social workers  upon request.

Enjoy today in a healthy way, ~ Karen

Grapefruit ~

Grapefruit ~

In Ayurveda, the secret of the grapefruit lies in its powerful flavors, sour and bitter. These cleansing tastes stimulate the flow of bile, diluting and flushing it out of the gallbladder and into the small intestine. Stagnant bile tends to collect and thicken in the gall bladder, where the liver stores the bile after producing it, forming problematic sludge and stones. The sludge inhibits the drainage of bile, congesting the liver. Sour and bitter flavors encourage the bile to move and flush toxins out of the liver to the relief of your newly cleansed liver cells.

*Grapefruits are contraindicated for high blood pressure or when using anti-depressants. If you take thyroid medication, please check with your doctor before adding grapefruit to your diet.

Grapefruit with Ginger, Honey and Cardamom

Ingredients
2 pinch Cardamon
2 pinch Ginger (dried)
1 c Grapefruit
1 tsp Honey

Preperation
1. Peel grapefruit
2. Slice in flat circles
3. Mix ginger and cardmom with honey into a spicy paste. Drizzle over the sliced grapefruit. Cardamom is optional.

Enjoy this wonderful recipe for breakfast to help you stay balanced this fall.

Reiki Lecture at Brigham and Women’s and Reiki Share

FREE Lecture: The Benefits and Science Behind Reiki for Cancer Patients. Monday. September 11. 6:30 pm. Brigham and Women’s Lung Cancer Forum. Brookline MA. Contact us for details.

Reiki (ray-kee) is a gentle Japanese healing art that promotes relaxation and potentially improve comfort and calm, offering emotional and physical benefits while undergoing treatment for cancer. Reiki sessions are offered with the client/patient fully clothed, either lying or seated, often with light touch, but no manipulation.

Gentle and generally relaxing, reiki sessions are often viewed as supportive care by patients receiving them.Though the science is still out about the effectiveness of reiki, a number of hospitals and healthcare settings are incorporating reiki as adjunctive support for stress and pain management. (Contact me for current research studies related to reiki in the oncology setting.)

Reiki Sessions are offered in a variety of cancer centers throughout the U.S. including Brigham and Women’s, Dana Farber, Beth Israel Deaconess, and Tufts Medical Center.

Note: Talk to your doctor about reiki and other complementary and integrative therapies you are or thinking about receiving. Reiki sessions are not meant to take the place of conventional treatment.
