Digestion = Agni

Digestion = Agni

Through the lens of Ayurveda we are what we “digest” not what we eat.

If we don’t digest our food we start to form “Ama”. Ama is a Sanskrit word, which literally means undigested or uncooked. The first stage of disease is also sometimes called Ama “toxins”.

Ayurveda also explains another entity called “Agni”. This word literally means fire. But in this context it means digestive fire. As long as the digestive fire is strong, Ama cannot be formed in the body. Agni (digestive fire) helps to melt down and flush out Ama (toxins) from the body.

Weak Agni (digestive fire) becomes weak by eating out of one’s constitution (Vata, Pitta or Kapha), eating the same foods, overeating, drinking too much water with meals, staying up late, resisting the urge to eat and eating at irregular times.

Presence of Ama (toxins)
Eczema
Psoriasis
Cysts
Swellings
Painful or swollen joints
Hypercholesterolemia
Blocked arteries

Symptoms of Ama in the body:
Heaviness
Lethargy
Irregular appetite or reduced appetite
Skin is dull and lusterless with blemishes, acne
Bloated stomach, gases, flatulence
Metallic taste in the mouth
White coating on the tongue
Foul smelling breath and sweat
Constipation, foul smelling stools which may be sticky, heavy and sink.
Lack of mental clarity and energy.
A sense of heaviness in the abdomen, legs or body as a whole
Weary and unenthusiastic feeling
Blocked feeling anywhere in the body, including constipation, sinus congestion and difficulty in breathing
Waking feeling tired even after a good nights sleep

Ayurveda Spring Wellbeing Workshop ~

Ayurveda Spring Wellbeing Workshop ~

When:  Saturday, April 8

Time:  1:00 – 3:00pm

Where:  Trident Yoga, 214 Eastern Ave, Gloucester

Join Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC at Trident Yoga in Gloucester for informative and interative spring workshop through the lens of Ayurveda.

According to Ayurveda, spring is a KAPHA season, a mixture of earth and water elements. We know this because of its characteristics: wet, cold, heavy, dull, sticky, soft and firm. Too much Kapha leads to common springtime symptoms like congestions colds, flu, cough, sinus infections, sleepiness, and winter weight gain.

The mind can become dull and lose some of its winter sharpness. Common emotional problems are sadness, depression and over-attachment to the past.

Learn how to lessen Kapha’s effect on your health so you can feel great this spring!

Ayurveda is the ancient Indian way of living with vitality, good health and abundant happiness. The path to good health is unique for each person.

In this workshop you’ll learn:
• Seasonal routines for the spring Kapha season
• Yoga postures for the season
• Diet and lifestyle changes
• Recipes using spices and herbs for the season

Food and oil sampling as well!

Investment:  Pre- Registration (recommended) $36.00

Winter is a great time of year for a cleanse but not just a cleanse but one that also helps to rejuvenate the body and mind.

Seasonal cleansing rids our bodies of all sorts of toxins, pollutants, harb chemicals, pesitcides, and any other Ama (toxic residue) that our physical body has accumulated over the holiday period. Cleanses will help to purify and tone the internal organs, cells, and tissues of the body, flushing out impurites that aren’t serving us.

Ask yourself the following quesitons:
* Have you been feeling more sluggish and tired lately
* Is your energy level just isn’t what it used to be
* After you eat, all you want to is take a nap
* Is your thinking as clear and sharp as you’d like
* Do you have a heavy coating on your tongue
* Do you have foul body, breath and/or stool order
* Are you experiencing indigestion and excessive flatulence
* Do you have body aches
* Is your mind foggy

An Ayurvedic cleanse focuses on resetting that digestive fire, allowing it to rest and strengthen. The detoxifying nature also supports the body’s own natural mechanisms to remove built up toxins from the body. It’s a bit like cleaning out the pipes when the drain gets clogged, or hopefully even before the drain gets clogged.

Included in cleanse:
Kick-Off conference call or In-person meeting
6 meals
Cleanse Supplements
Cleansing Tea
Email and/or phone support

Investment: $108.00 (Includes shipping for out of town clients)

Lavender Tea Bread

Lavender Tea Bread

Lavender is calming and great way to reduce stress this holiday season. Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC loves to make Lavender Tea Bread to share with our friends and family.

Lavender Tea Bread
(makes one 8-inch loaf)

3/4 – 1 cup coconut sugar
5 tbl butter
1 1/2 tsp organic lavender leaves, lightly crushed with a mortar & pestle
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
1 1/4 cups wheat pastry flour
1/2 cup almond flour
1 tbl flax seeds
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp Himalayan Salt
1 cup yogurt, plain
2 tbl confectioners’ sugar (to dust top)
1/2 tsp grated lemon rind (garnish on top)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8-inch loaf pan and line the bottom with wax paper (or parchment paper). All ingredients should be at room temperature prior to preparation.

In a 3-qt mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar until creamy. Stir in the crushed lavender and vanilla. Add the eggs; beat well with an electric whisk (or hand blender). In a 2-qt mixing bowl, whisk together the pastry flour, almond flour, flax seeds, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

Gently gold 1/3 of the flour mixture into the sugar cream mixture. Fold in half the yogurt. Repeat the alternating pattern of flour and yogurt until all the ingredients are blended together.

Transfer the batter into the prepared pan. Bake until done, about 45 min. Test for doneness after 40 min. The bread is done when a sudden toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean and the bread starts to separate from the edges of the pan. Cool in the pan for 20 min. on a wire rack; then turn out onto the rack to cool completely.

Enjoy and share with your friends 🙂
