Colors to keep you cool~

Colors to keep you cool~

Cooling colors for summer…

Summer is the season of fire, and there is an increased tendency for arguments, yelling, and getting angry. It is better not to discuss any serious topics during the hot hours of the day, or during very hot days. If you need to make important decisions, do it in the morning or evening when it’s cool.

Dress in cotton (or silk) clothes, and as much as possible avoid colors like red, orange, yellow, and black. Gentle and mild colors help one to stay cool, especially blue, white, green, and purple. After dressing, you can do your worship or meditation practice if it is part of your routine.

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC go to summer color is white…what’s your go to summer color to keep your cool?

Leafy Greens ~

Leafy Greens ~

It is leafy green season so lets take a look through the lens of Ayurveda the best way to prepare for our digestion…

The preferred Ayurvedic method for cooking vegetables is to sauté them in ghee or steam in a little water. Adding salt at the beginning reduces the cooking time. Excess raw vegetables are not advised as they are heavy and hard to digest! Raw food is better in Summer, or at lunch time when digestion is strongest.

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC loves dark green leafy vegetables cooked using the following method:

Toast 2 tbsp. sesame seeds until slightly golden.
Stir fry 4 cups chopped green leafy vegetables with 2 chopped garlic cloves
1 tsp.chopped ginger.
Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and salt if desired.
Serve and enjoy!

High Noon ~

High Noon ~

We are what we digest, not what we eat.

Do you eat your biggest meal of the day at lunch between 12 noon and 2:00pm? No?

Through the lens of Ayurveda our digestive fire is the strongest and is working at it’s maximum potency. As the sun begins to go down so does our agni (digestive fire)

So start today by eating lunch between 12 noon and 2:00pm and making it the biggest meal of the day.

Let Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC know in a week how just this one small change made a huge difference in your body and mind.

Cheese and Food Combining ~

Cheese and Food Combining ~

Cheese and Food Combining…

Our digestive system was not designed to handle non-stop large, heavy, complex meals. The western eating habits place continual stress on the digestive system with inadequate “down-time” for the system to recuperate. When we over eat, eat too heavy or snack in-between meals we overwork the system causeing log-jams downstream resulting in undigested food that putrefies and ferments, leading to gas, bloating and potential accumulation of “ama” (toxins) from food and unprocessed emotions.

Though the lens of Ayurveda – food combining plays a big part in our digestion.

Cheese, which is cold, heavy and mucus forming, is best eaten alone or with vegetables. Many of the western serving methods (i.e., cheese and crackers; cheese and apples; macaroni and cheese, cheese with sandwiches, cheese pizza, etc.) are very difficult to digest.

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC loves cheese sprinkled with a bit of black pepper.

Ayurvedic massage involving tapping, kneading, squeezing and traditional massage strokes is done by using essential oils to suit individual doshas. The style and intensity of massage depends on the individual’s need for balance and well being at the time.

An Ayurvedic therapist focuses on the “marma points”, which are similar to the pressure points in reflexology, acupuncture and acupressure.

Addiction of Loving an Addict ~

Addiction of Loving an Addict ~

Have you or someone you know experienced the Addiction of Loving an Addict?

Please join Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC and Jenny Ravikumar of Barefoot Yoga Shala for an evening of discussion around healing your heart, body and soul from the addiction of loving an addict.  Sunday, June 4 from 4-6pm

During our evening of conversation and refreshments, we will be learning about the addiction of loving an addict. What it means to be co-dependent, how shame and forgiveness play into family disease and what you can do to begin your own recovery. We will connect on how we can explore the use of yoga, al-anon principles, essential oils and breath work to heal.

You deserve self-care. Addiction may not be your choice, but it is your journey. How you move forward is your choice. Let’s release shame, invite forgiveness and explore loving kindness.

We will end our evening with a guided meditation, breath work and an essential oil assist.

Jenny Ravikumar, e-RYT 500 hour teacher, reiki master, healer and writer. She will share her powerful story of how she began (and is still to this day) healing her own heart while staying strong in loving her son and creating a new family lifestyle for them both.

When planning a meal think of what you will find at your local farmers market. This will help to keep you balanced and aide in your digestion. Sprouts are light and astringent and will add a crunch to your salads. Add in some easy digestible proteins like green beans, sweet peas, quinoa and white flaky fish.

Sprouts are loaded with proteins, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC loves the below recipe.
