Curried Apple and Celery Soup ~

Curried Apple and Celery Soup ~

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC loves the following spring soup recipe, so yummy and it’s good for your digestion too!

Curried Apple and Celery Soup Recipe

Ingredients
(4 servings)
2 Stalks Celery, roughly chopped
2 Green Apples, peeled and roughly chopped
1/2 cup Milk
1/2-cup Vegetable stock, or water
1/2 teaspoon Cumin powder
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon Powder
Salt and Pepper, to taste

To begin making the Apple Celery Soup, melt the butter in a saucepan. Add in the chopped celery root and the apples.

Sprinkle some salt and sautƩ until the celery and the apple turn a little soft.

Keep the saucepan partially covered so the steam that gets generated helps them to cook faster.

Stir in the remaining ingredients and add it to the blender. If you don’t have a blender that can’t take in heat, then wait for the mixture to cool before you can blend it.

Blend the apple celery soup mixture in the blender until smooth.

Pour the soup back into the saucepan and check for the salt and pepper levels. Adjust to suit your taste.

When you are ready to serve the soup, give the soup a quick boil

Enjoy!

• Learn the 8 basic steps to practice the ZentangleĀ® Method.
• Learn the step outs to creating a basic tangle- sounds technical-it’s not and its fun!
• Share Ideas and resources like Zentangle.com and pattern hunting!
• Learn as many tangles as we have time for- You will want too!
The ZentangleĀ® Method of drawing patterns is simple to learn and is perfect for those who feel they lack artistic talent, creativity or ā€œcan’t draw a straight lineā€! That is not an issue in ZentangleĀ® in fact it will probably be a plus as you start on this exciting journey. We like to say, ā€œYou Can Do Anything, One Stroke at a Timeā€.
ZentangleĀ® requires only a few materials (all materials included) and can be done anywhere. Once you start to ZentangleĀ® you will want to share your knowledge and to learn as many ā€œtanglesā€ as possible. There are hundreds to learn!
What then is a tangle? Think of it this way…In yoga you learn poses and in Zentangle you will learn tangles. Each tangle is its own structured pattern that is broken down into simple steps.
Each step leads to the next without any need for planning and is very easy to follow. There are less than 5 steps or less to complete a tangle.
Using the ZentangleĀ® method on its own is relevant from a design perspective as well and from a wellness perspective- it’s calming and fun!. Described by Ikuko Acosta, Ph.D Director of the Graduate Art Therapy Program at New York University. In reference to ZentangleĀ® Acosta states, “Repeating something, like lines or colors, for even 30-40 minutes has the function of neutralizing anxiety and anxiousness. As humans, we often associate our feelings with our visual environments. Repetitious behaviors can therefore be very calming.”
ā€œThe ZentangleĀ® Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patternsā€.

As an Artist and Designer, I am interested in discovering the opportunities that naturally present themselves in the process of creating Art. I use my creativity to solve problems and discover new avenues of learning through color, composition and line.
My approach to Art is simple, I study an object or landscape in detail, I remember it and then Paint, Draw or Sculpt it using paints, ink, clay other media. This experiential art process allows for my own inner interpretation, insight and expression to come through in a natural and symbiotic way.
My painting can be interpreted as Interior spaces in which the viewer can enter and move through freely feeling familiar in its chaos or lack of objectiveness and then find rest and comfort in some defined area. Currently, my art follows along the lines of Abstract Expressionism. Some of my favorite artists are Rothko, Reinhard, Sonia Delaunay, Krasner, Klee, De Kooning, Adnan and Matisse to name a few- I have many!
In April of 2015, my Art took on a new twist as I discovered the ZentangleĀ® Method of drawing.

Honey ~

Honey ~

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC and the benefits of honey…

Through the Ayurvedic lens, raw honey has many benefits including scraping fat and cholesterol from the body’s tissues making it the “go to” sweetener for kapha or anyone trying to reduce kapha in their body. However, eating a jar of honey is not going to create weight loss…Ayurveda is about balance so let moderation be your guide.

Ayurveda cautions that heating honey above 108 degrees F will render it toxic at the cellular level which could cause blockage of subtle energetic channels.

Today we know that when honey is heated its molecular structure changes; it coagulates and becomes sticky. This sticky glue-like substance can clog mucous membranes and arteries leading to cellular toxicity.

Buying and consuming local honey can help with allergies.

Enjoy…

Ayurvedic Massage ~

Ayurvedic Massage ~

Let Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC help you eliminate toxins with The Secrets of Ayurvedic Massage.

An ayurvedic massage helps eliminate toxins through purification, strengthens the muscle tone, relaxes and rejuvenates the body. Also known as hard body massage, Ayurvedic massages are given using hands, elbows, and forearms.

Ayurvedic massage involving tapping, kneading, squeezing and traditional massage strokes is done by using essential oils to suit individual doshas. The style and intensity of massage depends on the individual’s need for balance and well being at the time.

An Ayurvedic therapist focuses on the “marma points”, which are similar to the pressure points in reflexology, acupuncture and acupressure.

Cilantro Mint Chutney ~

Cilantro Mint Chutney ~

Cilantro Mint Chutney is Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC favorite spring time go to!

Spring is know as Kapha season through the lens of Ayurveda and we need to help ourselves by eating foods that will help lift the fog, dampness and break up mucus.

Cilantro calms our immune sensitivity to pollen. It is hypoallergenic and cools the liver.

Mint refreshes the mind, disperses dullness and lifts the fog. It breaks up mucus and fluid stagnation in the lungs, throat and sinuses. Mint and cilantro are both diuretics with the potential to drain excess water via the urinary tract. Raw onions have a cleansing effect on the liver and a laxative effect in the GI. Wild onions, a common weed, are a great addition to the spring time menu.

Cilantro Mint Chutney:

On the right path?

Does the path you’re on feel right?

A good indiction that something is “wrong” in your life or the path is not leading you in the “right” direction would be feeling fearful, depressed or pessimistic.

When you’re on the “right” path you will know as you will feel enthusiastic, optimistic or content. Doing what you need to do, being who you really are brings out the best in us all.

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC encourages you to sit with your thoughts, feel them, see them and most importantly “hear” them.

Dry Brushing ~

Dry Brushing ~

Dry brushing through the lens of Ayurveda….

The Benefits

Increases muscle tone
Improves skin texture (luminosity and suppleness)
Reduces the effects of stress on the body
Promotes weight management by supporting healthy metabolism
Supports natural detoxification
Improves lymphatic circulation
Enhances circulation
Stimulates areas that accumulate cellulite
The Contraindications

Avoid garshana if you have:

Very sensitive skin

A Skin condition, such as psoriasis or eczema

An open wound (skip area)

Inflamed skin due to sunburn or an allergy an allergy

Ayurvedic dry-brushing, called garshana (pronounced gar-shun-uh), promotes lymphatic cleansing and is a powerful way to support the removal of ama (cellular waste products) from the body. Garshana is traditionally done using raw silk or linen gloves, though many prefer to use a natural bristle body brush. This technique is recommended for people who have signs of ama, which may include fatigue, sluggishness, feeling physical or mental dullness, constipation, and a taxed immune system.

Dry brushing is also an excellent practice for the kapha time of year, the season of spring. During the spring months, snow is melting, water has saturated the earth, and flower pollen is carried on the breeze. This is the time of year when kapha can begin to accumulate in the lymph or the sinuses and create stagnation or respiratory congestion. Dry brushing helps to stimulate kapha in the body and encourage movement and drainage of excess mucus.

It is important to do abhyanga (Ayurvedic self-oil massage) after dry brushing. Organic cold pressed sesame oil is a good place to start. Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC carriers a wide variety of self-oil massage oils, including, sesame, Vata, Pitta, Kapha, and detox oil for your convenience.

Guidelines for Garshana—The Traditional Ayurvedic Dry Massage

Skin brushing is best done in the morning before bathing, with dry skin that is free from lotion or oil

Make sure the room where the massage will be done is a comfortable temperature
Stand in the bathtub/shower or on a towel to avoid getting flaky skin on the floor

Using gloves or a brush, massage vigorously to stimulate the skin and lymph

Keep the direction of the stroke always toward the heart

Use circular strokes on the stomach and joints (shoulders, elbows, knees, wrists, hips, and ankles), and long sweeping strokes on the arms and legs (toward the heart)

Massage from the feet upward, continuing to the torso and on to the neck

Massage from the hands to the shoulders

Massage the stomach and buttocks in circular clockwise motions

Apply light pressure where the skin is thin or sensitive and firm pressure on thicker areas like the bottoms of the feet
