Yummy Grapefruit ~

Yummy Grapefruit ~

Grapefruit ~

In Ayurveda, the secret of the grapefruit lies in its powerful flavors, sour and bitter. These cleansing tastes stimulate the flow of bile, diluting and flushing it out of the gallbladder and into the small intestine. Stagnant bile tends to collect and thicken in the gall bladder, where the liver stores the bile after producing it, forming problematic sludge and stones. The sludge inhibits the drainage of bile, congesting the liver. Sour and bitter flavors encourage the bile to move and flush toxins out of the liver to the relief of your newly cleansed liver cells.

*Grapefruits are contraindicated for high blood pressure or when using anti-depressants. If you take thyroid medication, please check with your doctor before adding grapefruit to your diet.

Dizziness ~

Dizziness ~

Do you experience bouts of dizziness?

Ginger helps to relieve dizziness and nausea. Studies have shown that it may even be more effective that over-the-counter medications. You can use ginger in the form of supplements. You can also prepare a ginger tea by adding a half inch piece of ginger root to boiling water. Sipping on some ginger ale or chewing on ginger candy is also helpful in treating dizziness.

• When you start feeling dizzy, practice deep breathing. Inhale slowly and take in more air during each breath. This helps to soothe the nerves and alleviates stress.

The color Gold ~

The color Gold ~

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC knows the effects color can play into our wellbeing.

Through the lens of Ayurveda “The color gold is made up primarily of fire, water and earth but also has a little ether and air. Gold is warm, slightly moist, heavy and stabilizing.

In the mind, the color gold promotes stability and can be beneficial as part of a complete plan to manage anxiety and bi-polar tendencies. It accomplishes this without any sedative side effects. In fact, the colorgold is energizing in a manner that promotes endurance rather than a quick high. It uplifts the spirit and helps to transform consciousness, as it promotes greater awareness. In the body, the color gold supports all immune functions. It helps prevent disease and is useful in the management of autoimmune disease.

As you can see from the description, gold is neither very balancing nor very disturbing to any one dosha. It is safe to use by everyone. This makes gold a tridoshic color.” ~ Excerpt from “Healing Your Life, Lessons on the Path of Ayurveda,” by Dr. Marc Halpe

Incorporating gold into your life can be as easy as being in the warmth of the sun, eating honey, wearing gold jewelry, or gold clothing – how about some gold pillows on your furniture?

Spaghetti Squash ~

Spaghetti Squash ~

Don’t you just love Spaghetti Squash?

It’s that big yellow thing in the produce aisle that you quizzically look at and think – “what is that” and “how do you cook it”?

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC has a favorite spaghetti squash dish and it’s so easy to make.

Prep Time: 1 hr.
Servings: 2 – 4

Ingredients:
1 lg. spaghetti squash
1/2 cup water, plus more as needed

Preheat oven to 375. Pour the water into a 13×9 inch glass baking dish. Cut the ends off the squash and discard. Cut the squash in 1/2 lengthwise. Remove the seeds. Place each 1/2 cut-side down in the prepared pan. Bake for 45 min., or until the squash is fork-tender, adding another 1/2 cup water if necessary to prevent the squash from burning. Let cool for 5 to 10 min. The flesh will break into spaghetti-like strands as you scrape it out with a fork.

Serve with Olive Oil, salt and pepper or top with Pesto Chutney – so yummy!

Got Chyavanprash?

Got Chyavanprash?

Got Chyavanprash?

As we move into the darkness of fall and being indoors we need to boost our immune systems and Chyavanprash is an excellent way to do it.

Chyavanprash is based on a traditional Ayurvedic herbal jam recipe made in a base of amalaki fruit, a natural source of antioxidants. This excellent rejuvenative nourishes and strengthens the body, providing energy and vitality.

Chyavanprash is an excellent method for daily herbal consumption due to its unique constituents of cane sugar, ghee, and honey. Proven effective over a thousand years of use, these nourishing tastes play the important role of “carriers” that allow the herbs to penetrate deep into the tissues. In a small daily dose (1 or 2 teaspoons), it makes for a tasty and very healthful treat.

This tridoshic formula stimulates metabolism and enkindles the digestive fire without aggravating pitta. It balances vata and kapha while strengthening the body against the effects of a stressful lifestyle. The energizing herbs bolster the immune system and help maintain health and well-being throughout the year.

Sticky gooey foods…

Sticky gooey foods…

Sticky gooey foods create sticky goo in our bodies – in Ayurveda this is known as “Ama” (toxins).

Ask your self the following questions:

Do you often feel a sense of blockage (such as constipation or congestion)
Do you often have difficulty digesting food
Do you feel foggy when waking up
Do you feel weak for no apparent reason
Do you often feel lethargic and unmotivated
Do you feel the need to cough regularly
Do you become easily exhausted, both mentally and physically
Do you frequently feel depressed
Do you often have no taste for food
Do you catch a cold several times a year

If you answered yes to 5 or more of the above questions – you have moderate to high amount of ama (toxins) in your body.

Contact Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC for a consultation and let us assist you in clearing those toxins.

Blooming Lotus ~

Blooming Lotus ~

Without the mud the lotus would not bloom….

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC encourages you to start your daily meditation practice or deepen your current practice.

Meditation is an essential tool for bringing a person’s mind back into balance and should be incorporated into everyone’s health regimen. There are varying types of #meditation available depending on a person’s prakruti (your base point) and depending on if a person’s mind is in a state of rajas, tamas, or sattva. For example, a kapha mind should be kept busy. Conversely, a vata mind should be quieted and kept still. A pitta mind should be calmed. So an appropriate meditation technique should be chosen based on a person’s manasa prakruti and what state it is in.

Your life will open up to new experiences as the lotus flower below opens to greet each new day.

Sounds daunting – but it does not have to be. Contact us for a consultation to determine your prakruti and state of mind at: info@ayurvedawellnesshealing.com

Coconut Oil ~

Coconut Oil ~

Heat of Summer = Coconut Oil

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC knows as summer ratchets up the heat index, as it does the fire element (Pitta), in the universe, and in our individual bodies. We all have some amount of the fire element (Pitta), however, usually one or two elements predominate, and if fire is on the top of your list (or your loved ones’), you may notice a few uncomfortable shifts in the summer season.

Signs of high Pitta in the body:
skin rashes, acne, premature graying/balding, heartburn, acid stomach, diarrhea.

Signs of high Pitta in the mind:
irritability (particularly after being exposed to heat or Pitta-provoking circumstances), competitiveness, egoism, envy, quick-to-anger.

Do you see a sign or two of high Pitta in yourself or a loved one? What to do? One thing do to is to give yourself a self massage using organic, cold pressed coconut oil 2 – 3 times per week prior to jumping in the shower. You may also massage into your scalp and hair, wrap in a towel and sleep with it and wash out in the morning. Not only will your hair feel great, but you should notice less burning in the mind and body as well.
