Butterfly visit ~

Butterfly visit ~

The power of Meditation….

As we sit quietly, take a deep breath in, hold for a bit and then gently exhale, do this 3-5 times. Feel your body relax, now gently close your eyes and let your breath relax as well. Sit for as little as 5 minutes, it’s not so important on how long but how often. No matter where, time of day or length just “do” everyday and just maybe you too will have a butterfly come visit 💜

We leave you with this quote:

“Live does not happen to us, it is only responding to us” 💕

Forgiveness = wellbeing

Forgiveness = wellbeing

Forgiveness is about your overall well being.  Hanging onto being right is like a growing cancer.  Being right gets heavier as time goes on, weighing you down more and more.

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC encourages you to find it in you to say: “I forgive you (insert name)” and “I love you (insert name)”.  Do it a few times and day and watch and feel yourself become light, happy and joyful.

Reflexology ~

Reflexology ~

Reflexology and the many hidden benefits…

Reflexology is the application of pressure to areas on the feet, hands and ears. Reflexology is generally relaxing and may be an effective way to alleviate stress.

The theory behind reflexology is that these areas correspond to organs and systems of the body. The pressure applied to these areas affects the organs and benefits the person’s health.

Several studies funded by the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health indicate that reflexology may reduce pain and psychological symptoms, such as anxiety and depression, and enhance relaxation and sleep. Studies also show that reflexology may have benefits in palliative care of people with cancer.

Be a lighthouse ~

Be a lighthouse ~

Our office is located in a very beautiful, calming and refreshing area, surrounded by lighthouses but our favorite is the Annisquam Harbor Light.  Lighthouses help to guide in ships to safety…we too can be a lighthouse and guide those around us to safety by being kind and lending a sympathetic ear.

Together we can all create healing white light..become a lighthouse.

Ear oiling ~

Ear oiling ~

Experiencing neck stiffness, ear wax, insomnia, headaches etc?

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC knows the benefits of Karnapoorna which is one of the many therapies in Ayurveda that is done with oil. It means, putting oil in your ears! Now, not only is it a therapy, but it’s also used as preventative medicine. You can do karnapoorna as needed or once a week as part of your routine to stay healthy. Karnapoorna is best for vata imbalances including:
• Insomnia
• Ringing in the ears
• Headaches
• TMJ
• Anxiety or worry
• Jet-lag and ears popping/crackling in airplanes

Other benefits are:
• Improves hearing
• Loosens ear wax (who doesn’t want that?!)
• Strengthens the bones in the ear
• Prevents neck stiffness

Intrigued yet? Give it a try. It might tickle at first, but stick with it for about 30 seconds, then you should feel calm and happy.

***Do not do karnapoorna after a shower or swimming. Oil and water do not mix and it could do bad things.

Here’s what to do:
Just before bedtime…
Warm some sesame oil and put in shallow bowl
Use a cotton ball to soak up the oil
Lay on one side and squeeze the oil out of the cotton ball into your ear (it will tickle)
Massage your ear lobe and bones gently for a couple minutes
Lay for 20 minutes (even 10 minutes does some good), bonus points if you so hum
Put a towel over your ear, tilt your head so the oil drizzles out
Repeat other side
Aaaannnnd, goodnight   You will probably want to sleep.

Asparagus Risotto ~

Asparagus Risotto ~

Love asparagus?  Here is one of Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC favorite.  Let us know what you think…

Traditonal risotto is made using arborio rice, which is white and glutinous and produces a very creamy rice dish. The trick to making a creamy and tasty brown rice risotto is to use short grain rice and lots of veggie stock.

3/4 cup short grain brown rice
2 cups vegetable or mushroom stock
1 Tbsp each butter (or ghee) and olive oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 red onion, chopped
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tsp dried basil
1 bunch asparagus, trimmed and chopped
black pepper
grated parmesan or reggiano cheese

In a medium, heavy pot, heat the butter (or ghee) and olive oil.  Add onions, garlic and red pepper flakes, sauteeing until soft. Stir in rice, basil and half the stock. Let simmer covered on medium for 20 minutes, then add remaining stock plus asparagus. Stir well, cover, and let cook until all the liquid is absorbed and rice is creamy (not firm or dry), about another half hour. If needed, cook in another 1/4 cup or 1/2 cup of stock to reach the right consistency. Stir in parmesan to taste and grind in some black pepper. Serves 2.

NOTE: Ayurvedically, cheese is not recommended as it is difficult to digest, but it also purports that black pepper helps make it more digestible.

  • We make our own Ghee and it’s for sale – best out there.

FOR INDIVIDUAL DOSHAS
Great for all doshas. Pittas, omit or minimize garlic, dried basil, and red pepper flakes; Kaphas, omit or reduce butter and oil to 1 tsp each.

Digestion starts on your tongue…

Digestion starts on your tongue…

It is important to chew food adequately. Chewing is the first stage of digestion and it preps the food for further processing downstairs in the digestive tract.

Ideally, you should chew your food until it becomes liquid – yes that’s right, liquid. This could be anywhere from 20 – 50 bites, depending on: the quantity of food you put in your mouth and the type of food you put in your mouth. (mashed potatoes vs. chicken) Seems impossible – then try taking smaller bites and wait until you have fully swallowed before taking another bite.

Try and take note of the affects it has – if you tend to gulp your food and chew maybe just a few times before swallowing you might be experiencing gas or bloating – so give it a try, your health will thank you.

Dessert First?

Dessert First?

Do you eat your dessert first? What??

Yes, through the lens of Ayurveda foods in a meal be eaten in sequential order by their tastes and all six states should be represented while eating. By eating the tastes in order this corresponds to the digestive order. So, sweet tastes should be eaten first i.e. bread, desserts, rice, wheat, barley, corn etc. followed by sour taste i.e. pickle chutney, tamarind, lemon, tomato, etc.; followed by salty, pungent, bitter and last but not least astringent…phew

So you say, what again…I am so confused and how could I possibly do this? Here’s a rule of thumb: Eat your bread, rice or sweets first, then a sour tasting appetizer, followed by the main meal and finish with a salad which is astringent in taste! Or if that is just not always possible you can cook with or carry with you our Six Taste spice mix. At Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC we like to say “Digestion in a bottle

Diet of the Mind

Diet of the Mind

#Ayurveda describes sleep as the “diet of the mind”.

Our bodies metabolize waste products mostly after 10:00pm and the immune system needs to revitalize itself between 11:00 pm and 2:00am, so it’s critical to be asleep during these hours.

Here are a few tips for a restful sleep:

* Be in bed by 10pm
* No electronics in the bedroom
* Avoid caffeine late in the day
* Try some deep breathing exercises before bed
* Take a warm bath
* Cooler bedrooms make for a better nights sleep

Contact Ayurveda Wellness Healing if you have difficulties falling asleep, wake during the night or sleep so heavy that it’s hard to wake up – as these are all signs of an imbalance. During a private consultation we can determine where the imbalance lies.
