Like avocado’s? If not, you should.
Through the lens of #Ayurveda avocado’s are great in the Fall and Winter which is #Vata season…dry and light.
The avocado’s heavy, oily, and cool qualities lubricate the intestines and moisten dry lungs. Eating this nourishing food helps soothe the joints, moisturize dry hair, skin and nails, and enhance libido. Avocado strongly builds ojas (vigor).
Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC loves avocado’s sliced in half, remove the seed, sprinkle with a bit of salt, pepper and turmeric…grab a spoon, dig in and enjoy!

It is leafy green season so lets take a look through the lens of Ayurveda the best way to prepare for our digestion…
The preferred Ayurvedic method for cooking vegetables is to sauté them in ghee or steam in a little water. Adding salt at the beginning reduces the cooking time. Excess raw vegetables are not advised as they are heavy and hard to digest! Raw food is better in Summer, or at lunch time when digestion is strongest.
Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC loves dark green leafy vegetables cooked using the following method:
Toast 2 tbsp. sesame seeds until slightly golden.
Stir fry 4 cups chopped green leafy vegetables with 2 chopped garlic cloves
1 tsp.chopped ginger.
Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and salt if desired.
Serve and enjoy!

Cheese and Food Combining…
Our digestive system was not designed to handle non-stop large, heavy, complex meals. The western eating habits place continual stress on the digestive system with inadequate “down-time” for the system to recuperate. When we over eat, eat too heavy or snack in-between meals we overwork the system causeing log-jams downstream resulting in undigested food that putrefies and ferments, leading to gas, bloating and potential accumulation of “ama” (toxins) from food and unprocessed emotions.
Though the lens of Ayurveda – food combining plays a big part in our digestion.
Cheese, which is cold, heavy and mucus forming, is best eaten alone or with vegetables. Many of the western serving methods (i.e., cheese and crackers; cheese and apples; macaroni and cheese, cheese with sandwiches, cheese pizza, etc.) are very difficult to digest.
Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC loves cheese sprinkled with a bit of black pepper.

June brings in a summer diet.
When planning a meal think of what you will find at your local farmers market. This will help to keep you balanced and aide in your digestion. Sprouts are light and astringent and will add a crunch to your salads. Add in some easy digestible proteins like green beans, sweet peas, quinoa and white flaky fish.
