October, Ayurveda Awareness Month

October, Ayurveda Awareness Month

Ayurveda is a natural system of health and wellbeing and the sister-science to yoga. It originated in India thousands of years ago.

As a Complementary and Alternative Medicine Ayurveda can support your health needs in various ways. Ayurveda uses diet, herbal remedies, lifestyle tools and body therapies to establish health in body and mind.

Like Chinese medicine, Ayurveda is based on the five elements of nature. They are earth, air, fire, water and ether. According to Ayurveda, these elements are present in our environment around us as well as within us.

Good health is a state of balance of these five elements. Maintaining balance is the key and that involves many things. Your diet, lifestyle, relationships and habitat are all factors which can affect your natural state of balance. If you know your body type you can create a healthy lifestyle and greater well being.

Discover Your Body Type
In Ayurveda the five elements are organized into three fundamental principles called doshas. The three doshas are vata dosha, pitta dosha and kapha dosha. Each of us are composed of some combination of these three doshas.

Doshas govern the various processes of the body and mind. They create your uniqueness. With some knowledge of the doshas you can begin to track your state of health or your level of balance. Maintain a balance of the doshas to maintain health and prevent future illness from occurring.

Find Ayurveda Near You at Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC
book an appointment to determine your body type and your natural state of balance. As an Ayurvedic practitioners we use visual clues, ask questions and listen to your pulse to tell what your doshas are. You’ll learn your natural state of balance and if any imbalance is occurring. The diet, lifestyle measures and herbal supplements that will bring you back into balance will be discussed.

Join in one or all of our upcoming Ayurveda October events: Staying balanced with Ayurveda this Fall on Saturday, Oct. 14 and/or sign up for our Reboot & Restore Fall Cleanse or Staying Balanced with Ayurveda on Oct. 25.

Six Taste Spice Mix ~

Six Taste Spice Mix ~

Fall is Vata season through the lens of Ayurveda.

It is a time to eat warm grounding foods and to have all six tastes represented at each meal:

Sweet
Sour
Salty
Bitter
Pungent
Astringent

This means to focus on foods that are naturally in season at this time of year!

Sweet fall foods include pumpkin, squashes, root vegetables, whole grains (quinoa and amaranth are the most warming), pears, persimmons, apples, whole milk dairy and fresh dates or figs. Cook your squashes and your roots.

Salty fall foods are most important for the person who deals with a dry/cold vata imbalance. Water follows salt so salt in this context is meant to hydrate – specifically good salt: Celtic sea salt, Himalayan pink salt, Fleur de sel, etc. Salts that are not bleached or processed but are whole – and balanced by minerals that naturally occur alongside sodium in the earth. Salt is particularly warm and unctuous (lubricating) when taken in moderate amounts.

Sour fall foods include lemons, whole milk yogurt, apple cider vinegar, and naturally fermented foods like raw sauerkraut.

Check out our Six Taste Mix mix and it’s benefits:

• Improve Appetite & Digestion
• Promote Good Heart & Brain Health
• Improve Circulation
• Restore Gut Health
• Energize Food

Use it in cooking, sprinkle on salads or garnish on cooked food.
Organic Cumin, Organic Coriander, Organic Turmeric, Organic Fennel, Organic Cinnamon, Sea salt, Green Mango Powder, Organic Fenugreek, Organic Ginger, Organic Cayenne.

Total Eclipse

Total Eclipse

Total Eclipse of the Sun…best on an empty stomach and an open mind

For those of us living in the United States we will feel this total eclipse of the sun the most. So how do we take advantage of healing ourselves and moving forward in a calm, peaceful and grateful existence? Look no further…it’s in your hearts.

Listen to your heart. Let the awakening happen. Give yourself value and enjoy being alive at this pivotal junction in human history.

One or two hours before the eclipse, stop eating so that the food gets digested well and you will have an empty stomach.

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC encourages you recite a mantra during the eclipse on an empty stomach (for maximum results) but make sure you set the right intention before doing so. If you do not have a Mantra or don’t know what a Mantra is, try reciting the one below:

Aum hram hrim hraum sah suryaya namah
(aauuum Hraaam Hreem Hraaaum Saaah Suuureeeyaaya Naaamaha)

To keep your heart and mind open try reciting this mantra every morning for 5 minutes and let us know how you’re doing.

*Reminder to not look at the eclipse, permanent eye damage will result.

The mind, body connection ~

The mind, body connection ~

Through the lens of Ayurveda there is a strong connection between mind and body. Relaxation has enormous benefits to your health and plays a major role in preventing disease.

Let’s explore the calming effect that some crystals (like Blue Lace Agate) can assist us in quieting our mind, body and emotions.

Blue Lace Agate:
Links your thought processes to the spiritual vibration. The serene energies of Blue Lace Agate induce profound peace of mind.

Try taking 15 minutes out of your day to relax with a Blue Lace Agate crystal which will bring you inner peace for all to see and feel. Keep on your night stand for a deeper peaceful sleep.

Don’t know where to find crystals? We support our partner: ZuZu’s Healing Arts, Inc – check them out!

Summer heat = inflammation

Summer heat = inflammation

Summer is Pitta season through the lens of Ayurveda – which means fire, heat, inflammation.

It’s important to stay cool, both inside and out, in mind and body.

Start today with learning to let go, it’s not important to try and control everything as it will only create more heat.

Cool off/Chill out:

Take a tablespoon of aloe vera gel (not juice) as a Pitta tonic (heat reducing) every day to quell your fire. Do abhyanga (self oil massage) with coconut oil once a week (or more). To really quell fanning flames, consider coating your scalp (hair included) with coconut oil, wrapping it in a towel or even plastic wrap (you will look so pretty LOL) for bed. When you wake up, wash it out with shampoo and not only will your hair feel great, but you should notice less burning in the mind and body as well.

Give it a try and cool out with Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC

Ancient is the New New…

Ancient is the New New…

With chronic disease at epidemic proportions around the world, the need for novel preventive and health-restoring solutions is urgent.

Modern research reveals that dramatic reductions in cardiovascular and other chronic disease is possible through lifestyle intervention, however the knowledge base is fragmented, often inconsistent and insufficient to motivate many patients.

Ayurvedic knowledge offers a powerful added dimension of diagnosis, prevention and care through personalization, chronotherapeutics and medical foods and herbs based on the tridosha system that is appealing to the patient, “makes sense,” and is supported by a growing body of research.

Let us introduce you to yourself. Call us to set up a private consultation.

Colors to keep you cool~

Colors to keep you cool~

Cooling colors for summer…

Summer is the season of fire, and there is an increased tendency for arguments, yelling, and getting angry. It is better not to discuss any serious topics during the hot hours of the day, or during very hot days. If you need to make important decisions, do it in the morning or evening when it’s cool.

Dress in cotton (or silk) clothes, and as much as possible avoid colors like red, orange, yellow, and black. Gentle and mild colors help one to stay cool, especially blue, white, green, and purple. After dressing, you can do your worship or meditation practice if it is part of your routine.

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC go to summer color is white…what’s your go to summer color to keep your cool?
