The love of Cheese ~

The love of Cheese ~

Cheese and Food Combining…

Our digestive system was not designed to handle non-stop large, heavy, complex meals. The western eating habits place continual stress on the digestive system with inadequate “down-time” for the system to recuperate. When we over eat, eat too heavy or snack in-between meals we overwork the system causeing log-jams downstream resulting in undigested food that putrefies and ferments, leading to gas, bloating and potential accumulation of “ama” (toxins) from food and unprocessed emotions.

Though the lens of Ayurveda – food combining plays a big part in our digestion.

Cheese, which is cold, heavy and mucus forming, is best eaten alone or with vegetables. Many of the western serving methods (i.e., cheese and crackers; cheese and apples; macaroni and cheese, cheese with sandwiches, cheese pizza, etc.) are very difficult to digest.

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC loves cheese sprinkled with a bit of black pepper.

Spring Barley Risotto ~

Spring Barley Risotto ~

Spring Barley Risotto

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC loves a healthier alternative to the more traditional arborio risotto rice, barley adds iron and fiber to this fresh take on risotto. One cup of the green peas found in this dish offers more protein than a large egg.

Serves 4
2 Tablespoons oiive oil
1 cup pearled barley
2 leeks, white and green parts only, thinly sliced
½ cup white wind or water
2 cups water
Coarse salt and fresh ground pepper
14 ½ ounces vegetable broth
1 bunch of asparagus (about 1 pound) trimmed and cut in 2 inch pieces
1 box frozen peas defrosted (or fresh)
½ cup fresh grated parmesan

In a large saucepan, heat oil over medium heat. Add Barley and leeks and cook until it begins to soften about 5 to 7 minutes. Add ½ cup wine or water and cook for another 5 minutes and water starts to evaporate. Add remaining 2 cups of water and bring to boil and season with salt and pepper. Reduce heat and simmer until liquid absorbs, about 10 minutes

Add broth and continue to cook , stirring occasionally until barley is tender and creamy, about 10 minutes. Add asparagus and cook until tender another 5 minutes. Stir in peas until heated through (if using fresh cook throughly), Add parmesan and mint and season with salt and pepper. Enjoy!

Curried Apple and Celery Soup ~

Curried Apple and Celery Soup ~

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC loves the following spring soup recipe, so yummy and it’s good for your digestion too!

Curried Apple and Celery Soup Recipe

Ingredients
(4 servings)
2 Stalks Celery, roughly chopped
2 Green Apples, peeled and roughly chopped
1/2 cup Milk
1/2-cup Vegetable stock, or water
1/2 teaspoon Cumin powder
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon Powder
Salt and Pepper, to taste

To begin making the Apple Celery Soup, melt the butter in a saucepan. Add in the chopped celery root and the apples.

Sprinkle some salt and sauté until the celery and the apple turn a little soft.

Keep the saucepan partially covered so the steam that gets generated helps them to cook faster.

Stir in the remaining ingredients and add it to the blender. If you don’t have a blender that can’t take in heat, then wait for the mixture to cool before you can blend it.

Blend the apple celery soup mixture in the blender until smooth.

Pour the soup back into the saucepan and check for the salt and pepper levels. Adjust to suit your taste.

When you are ready to serve the soup, give the soup a quick boil

Enjoy!

Honey ~

Honey ~

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC and the benefits of honey…

Through the Ayurvedic lens, raw honey has many benefits including scraping fat and cholesterol from the body’s tissues making it the “go to” sweetener for kapha or anyone trying to reduce kapha in their body. However, eating a jar of honey is not going to create weight loss…Ayurveda is about balance so let moderation be your guide.

Ayurveda cautions that heating honey above 108 degrees F will render it toxic at the cellular level which could cause blockage of subtle energetic channels.

Today we know that when honey is heated its molecular structure changes; it coagulates and becomes sticky. This sticky glue-like substance can clog mucous membranes and arteries leading to cellular toxicity.

Buying and consuming local honey can help with allergies.

Enjoy…

Ayurvedic Massage ~

Ayurvedic Massage ~

Let Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC help you eliminate toxins with The Secrets of Ayurvedic Massage.

An ayurvedic massage helps eliminate toxins through purification, strengthens the muscle tone, relaxes and rejuvenates the body. Also known as hard body massage, Ayurvedic massages are given using hands, elbows, and forearms.

Ayurvedic massage involving tapping, kneading, squeezing and traditional massage strokes is done by using essential oils to suit individual doshas. The style and intensity of massage depends on the individual’s need for balance and well being at the time.

An Ayurvedic therapist focuses on the “marma points”, which are similar to the pressure points in reflexology, acupuncture and acupressure.

Cilantro Mint Chutney ~

Cilantro Mint Chutney ~

Cilantro Mint Chutney is Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC favorite spring time go to!

Spring is know as Kapha season through the lens of Ayurveda and we need to help ourselves by eating foods that will help lift the fog, dampness and break up mucus.

Cilantro calms our immune sensitivity to pollen. It is hypoallergenic and cools the liver.

Mint refreshes the mind, disperses dullness and lifts the fog. It breaks up mucus and fluid stagnation in the lungs, throat and sinuses. Mint and cilantro are both diuretics with the potential to drain excess water via the urinary tract. Raw onions have a cleansing effect on the liver and a laxative effect in the GI. Wild onions, a common weed, are a great addition to the spring time menu.
